THE RHYTHM … from Fr. John
HERE WE ARE at the highpoint of the entire year for us Christians: Holy Week: the renewal of our Baptismal Life in Christ Crucified and Risen from the Dead!
OUR LENTEN JOURNEY began Ash Wednesday with a call to conversion, a time to include fasting, prayer and almsgiving. Our Basilica Parish has therefore engaged in celebrating the Sacrament of Penance, walking the way of Jesus’ Passion, worshipping Him in the Blessed Sacrament, enjoying simple meals made with great love, and reflecting on what it means to journey together as a people of faith. We’ve been mindful of the hungry at our door with a collection of food items for the neighborhood pantry, and as always providing with our own hands the lunches that feed those who would otherwise go without. Through it all we have prayed and acted upon the sentiments expressed in the 51st Psalm, allowing for God to “create in us a new heart!” I hope you’ve chosen to participate in some way
NOW, IN THIS HOLY WEEK we powerfully, dramatically journey with Jesus through his Passion - his suffering and dying in our stead, in obedience to the Father, that we may have perfect eternal union with God who alone is Perfect. Beginning with the Palm Sunday procession, together we will step across the threshold of our Basilica doors, and that from Lent into Holy Week. We then gather again on Holy Thursday night to begin the most intense time of our year of prayer together, remember Jesus’ Last Supper, when he instituted the ministerial Priesthood and highlighted the servant priesthood of all believers with the Washing of Feet, and then instituted the Holy Eucharist, wherein he attached his dying and rising to this Sacred Meal, which he commanded us all to forever repeat it so as to always remember Divine Love broken open and poured out on the Cross. Then we reconvene on Good Friday to recall his Passion, Pray for the Church and the World, and Venerate his Cross. Then we reconvene again on Holy Saturday Night, with the Great and Solemn Easter Vigil: the First Easter Mass, with a Service of Light, Recounting Salvation History, Renewal of Baptismal Promises, Sacraments of Initiation, and Easter Eucharist! I hope you will choose to participate in this One Liturgy spread across the Three Sacred Days.
AHHH, EASTER – not just a day – not just a holiday or holy day. Rather, Eastertide is 50 Days – a Holy Season – a time of feasting and basking in the outpouring of Divine Grace that cannot be held bound by anything, not even death! It’ll be 50 days of our Parish Community celebrating Baptisms, First Communions, Confirmations, Weddings, Quinceañeras and of course, the Eucharist - the source and summit of it all for us as Christians!

Mass and Candle/Flower Intentions
Offering Mass for a special Intention is a long standing tradition in the Catholic Church. In addition, our celebration of the Eucharist is enhanced with fresh flowers in the Sanctuary. If you would like the opportunity to make a memorial offering in the name of a loved one or for a special occasion, please visit our parish website. Intentions are made available 3-4 months in advance. There will be one arrangement in front of the Mary statue which will be available as an intention every weekend.
