On Thursday, March 14, almost 300 guests gathered at the National Press Club for our 13th annual Next Step Breakfast. Together, we raised $240,000 to empower our neighbors who are battling unemployment, homelessness, and poverty. Next Step Program (NSP) participants have more options than ever before, and the impact is showing! With five diverse locations, expanded employment options through the STRIVE training, and increased hours of service, Samaritan Ministry is more accessible to our neighbors than ever before. With our 961 NSP participants we have a winning formula: Rigorously compassionate coaching + essential tools + access to opportunity = the hand up our participants need in this competitive, overpriced, under-paid environment. We say we care for our neighbors, and on Saturday, April 6, 60 people from the Silver Spring area showed it at the SMGW Maryland Partner Churches Community Walk for the Homeless in Our Midst! As our first event in this year's Empower The Homeless Campaign, this walk from Ascension Episcopal Church to Grace Episcopal Church demonstrated our support for our unhoused neighbors. Volunteers Make Samaritan Ministry's Success Possible
We've counted all the data and 2018 was a great year for part-time staff (also known as volunteers) at Samaritan Ministry...232 volunteers gave over 16,000 hours of service to make our work together possible! As we say at Samaritan Ministry, "Staff is staff." While there were fewer volunteers due to having fewer groups, volunteers gave 500 more hours! Click here to read our individual volunteers' stories.
We need stuff!Click here to see our current needs for food, toiletries, and other in-kind items to support our participants in reaching their housing, employment or education goals!
