Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Karen Melchar...

After many months being vacant, Karen Melchar (Partner Rep, St. Patrick’s, DC) answered our call for a Pantry Coordinator at the main office in Northwest for both the prepared food (cooking required) and walking food (no cooking required). When she saw that we did not have a Toiletry Coordinator, she took on that position too.

She came and she conquered! Immediately reorganizing, labeling, sorting and purging. And when she realized the Lead Caseworkers (LCW) from the other offices were coming to the main office in Northwest to pick up food and toiletry and other supplies, she volunteered to deliver the supplies on a regular basis to their joy and appreciation. Jane Bishop, LCW at Arlington office states she is a “stealth” delivery person. She comes, drops off heaps of boxes of supplies and is gone in a flash to the next office.

Karen Melchar is reliable, energetic, and passionate. She is always thinking about which food and toiletries our participants use the most and what is needed. We enjoy her cheerful disposition and the ability to get the job done.

Thank you, Karen!
