Sherman ISD Administrators, Board Members Read To FDECC Learners
Sherman ISD and SHS administrators headed out to Fred Douglass Early Childhood Center Monday morning to read to growing minds as a part of Day 8 readers! It’s the 11th year of the program which celebrates the 12 Days of Christmas at FDECC.
Monthly Recognitions Announced
Elementary Teacher of the Month
Priscilla Burns
The board honored Priscilla Burns as the November Elementary Teacher of the Month. Burns is the music teacher at Neblett Elementary School and provides a curriculum for all general ed and special ed students. Mrs. Burns is constantly looking for ways to improve her trade. She serves as a mentor for two new teachers in the district on what a music classroom looks like, does, and how to build after school opportunities like clubs such as choir, drumming and ensemble.
Secondary Teacher of the Month
Alex Little
Alex Little was honored as the November Secondary Teacher of the Month. Little is the PE teacher and boys athletic coach at Piner Middle School. Little's approach to building relationships with students while working with their athletic abilities is a very balanced and giving relationship. Little creates a positive environment by assisting any staff member with encouragement or knowledge of a student. He shares everything he has whether that’s in terms of knowledge and skills, or directly sharing activities and ideas with his colleagues.
Employee of the Month
MaryAnn Hill
MaryAnn Hill was recognized as the November Employee of the Month. Hill is the Lead Counselor at Sherman High School and provides equitable opportunities to educate, challenge, and inspire students of all ages, talents, and ability levels, while striving to prepare each with skills required to adapt and succeed. Hill leads her department of counselors with conviction and poise. She has fostered a culture of growth and respect amongst her team.
Volunteer of the Month
Andrew Ray
Andrew Ray was honored as the November Volunteer of the Month. Ray is currently a student at Austin College, majoring in Pre-Med. Every Tuesday from 9 to 12, Andrew works with Sory Elementary School 4th Grade students who are struggling with math concepts. He gives them another way to look at problems and is very encouraging. During his second day of volunteering, he supports our Gifted and Talented classroom.
Sherman ISD Welcomes New Director Of Finance
Sherman ISD is pleased to welcome Carly Snead as the new Director of Finance.

Snead brings 16 years of experience in Texas public school finance, serving most recently as the Chief Financial Officer at Bonham ISD. She has also worked at Melissa, Community and Northwest ISDs.
SISD Earns Highest State
Fiscal Accountability Rating
Sherman ISD has received the top A rating from the state for its financial management practices. SISD was recognized for “superior achievement” in the School Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) for the 12th straight year. 

The ratings system is designed by the state to provide additional transparency and oversight and encourage districts to provide the maximum allocation possible for direct instructional purposes. It is based on 20 financial indicators such as:

  • Administrative cost expenditures 
  • The accuracy of financial information submitted to the state
  • Any financial vulnerabilities or material weaknesses in internal controls as determined by an external auditor

Dates for Retirement: As you are aware, SISD pays you for a portion of unused local leave at retirement. This is in accordance with Board Policy DEC(Local). If a non-contracted employee intends to retire at the end of the semester and desires payment for local sick leave, then he or she must submit a letter of resignation to Human Resources no later than two weeks prior to the last day of the semester. If a retiring SISD employee does not meet this requirement, he or she will not be paid for any local sick leave upon retirement as determined by SISD Board Policy. If you have any questions about this, email Jill O'Neal at joneal@shermanisd.net.
