Registration for 2019-20 programs at the Edina Early Learning Center opened Feb. 5. Visit the ELC website for information and online registration for classes for children ages birth through pre-K, and parents, too!
School Board Update

The School Board's Legislative Action Committee (LAC) will be attending the Association of Metropolitan School Districts’ Day on Thursday, Feb. 21, 8-9 a.m. in the State Office Building at the Minnesota State Capitol, Room 400S to advocate for Edina Public Education. Anyone interested in joining the LAC at this event is welcome. Contact Ellen Jones , if interested in attending.
Listening Session for 2019-20 district budget March 4

District stakeholders have the opportunity to provide input regarding the proposed 2019-20 Budget Alignment Plan at a School Board Listening Session on Monday, March 4, at 6 p.m. in ECC Room 349. The proposed 2019-20 Budget Alignment Plan represents $2.2 million in reductions. The Board received the proposed plan as a discussion item at the Feb. 11 regular meeting. Preliminary approval of the 2019-20 Budget is expected at the March 11 regular meeting, with final approval slated for June.

The next regular meeting of the School Board is Monday, March. 11, at 7 p.m., in ECC Room 349.

 A complete meeting agenda is posted three days prior to the meeting. Regular meetings of the School Board are live streamed on the district's YouTube channel. To watch, click on the YouTube icon at the bottom of every district website page, or find the link on the School Board Meetings web page.
Q&A Sessions are held as requested. View more information about Q&A sessions and the form to submit questions. Questions must be submitted by 3 p.m. one week prior to each session. Sessions are held at 6:30 p.m., prior to a regular Board meeting.

Edina Public Schools has received the 2019 Environmental Leadership award for adopting “cutting edge techniques” for snow and ice management. The district was recognized during the 2019 Road Salt Symposium. 

The Edina High School music listening team, consisting of members Soren Edman, Charlie Klukow, and Paul Gherghetta, secured first place at the Minnesota High School Music Listening Contest. Team members participated in five rounds of competition and were awarded a total of 91 points out of 100.

A group of Edina students will be participating in the FIRST Tech Challenge World Robotics Championship. Team 3763 “Piece of Cake” is made up of five eighth graders from South View Middle School and two freshmen from Edina High School. The team won the state championship, which took place on Feb. 9, and will advance to the FTC World Robotics Championship in Detroit, April 24-28.
Did you Know?
Edina Give and Go is hosting a casual evening of community building on Friday, March 29. Bring a friend and learn more about the mission and work of Edina Give and Go. The event is free, but please register for the event. Edina Give and Go removes financial barriers to participation in activities for roughly 9% of Edina Public School students who live in households earning 200% or below the poverty line. Since July, student requests are 100% compared to the same time last year. This year Edina Give and Go has already supported over 150 students with over $60,000.
