Upcoming Events

January 29th is our cookie burgage!...but not all of our congregants can make it to church on Sundays.

Some are having health problems, recovering from surgery, or don't drive any longer. Once a year, we like to send them cookies and cards to make sure they know we care.

There are four ways you can help with this!

1. Come ready to bake cookies and make cards after church on the 29th!

2. Bake cookies ahead of time for us to send! You can drop them off ahead of time if you won't be here on the 29th!

3. YOUTH! Let's bake some cookies at the January 22nd drop-in! And hey, you have to test them to make sure they're good, right?

4. Drop off cookies on your way home!

This coming Sunday, January 29th, we kick off the 2023-24 Pledge Campaign. The Board has estimated we will need to raise $350,000 in pledges from our membership. By letting us know your financial commitment, we can be assured we can meet all the growing needs of our church home.

New for this year is the new platform called Realm that will allow you to conveniently make your pledge online. Nearly everyone has a Realm account; however, we all will need to (re)set our passwords. In a separate email sent today, you will receive a link to complete this task.

We have also created this video to explain to you how to access Realm and how to make your pledge. Please watch the video link below:

https://youtu.be/2J8JEsWeb6c

Sarah Brown will be available Sunday, January 29th to help answer your questions about this method of pledging and the stewardship committee members will be available after worship every Sunday during the campaign period. Also, Sarah is also happy to answer your questions any time during the week. Email her at office@allsoulindy.org or call 317-545-6005 to set up a time to come in.

Of course, we will continue to share paper pledge forms for those that prefer to use that format and we will have your individual pledge packet for you to pick up this Sunday. If you can’t join us, we will mail the package to you.

We will conclude the Pledge Campaign on Sunday February 19th when we are going to celebrate our vibrant membership with a luncheon and live music. Stay tuned for more details.

On behalf of the Stewardship Committee, Thank You for your continued support the All Souls community where together we Catch the Glow and share it with the rest of the world.

Calling all All-Souls members.

I am reaching out to everyone because the nursery is in need of volunteers. Do you have a Sunday you would like to spend hanging out in the nursery? Are you available during the week to help cover activities such as choir practice (which is now happening on Thursdays (from 6:30-8) or other small groups. Weekday nights are busy for everyone so any availability throughout the week would be greatly appreciated! We want to make sure that all activities offered at the church are accessible to everyone, which includes people with children!

If you run a small group during the week and would like to have a have childcare, please reach out as well. A two-week notice is required and outside of Sunday service/RE childcare can be provided for kids up to 12. Per our safe congregation policy, we will need two people (at least one being over 18) providing the care at all times. If any of this sounds like you, please reach out via email at nursery@allsoulsindy.org or via text message (317) 431-0640.

Love Coffee Hour? Help Us Keep It Going!

Coffee Hour sign-ups have been slow. Can you help?

It’s EASY and FUN!

We need a minimum of 2 volunteers each Sunday to arrive at 10 am, make coffee, serve coffee, and clean-up. You would be able to attend the worship service, although you might need to leave a few minutes early. The new coffee-making system is so easy to use!

Are you in a Chalice Circle or other small group? Volunteering together for a Coffee Hour is a great group activity! Thank you to the Channing Club who has volunteered to serve coffee (and cake!) the first Sunday of each month and a group of church friends who have volunteered for the third Sundays! Also, thanks to RE families and the All Souls Board for each hosting a Sunday recently!

Sign-up HERE! Any questions, please contact Jean Miller at president@allsoulsindy.org.

Faith in Indiana/Act Indiana is hosting a rally on February 11th at 1:30 p.m. at New Direction Church, 5330 East 38th Street. The "Call for Care" rally is an important step in pushing our legislators to fully fund Statewide Mental Health crisis mobile response teams. A strong turnout would be a strong message to elected officials who will be attending as well as the media.

Please plan on attending! You can sign up at www.ACallForCare.org or at the sign up table during coffee hour in Harris Hall.

Hello all! The 2023 Carl Gahwiler Great Decisions program series kicks off next week -- Tuesday, 31 January at 7 PM -- with a program focused on war crimes. Many of us probably still think of the Nuremberg Trials after WWII with justice demanding action after the heinous crimes committed by Nazi Germany. In a Cold War, this is more difficult to prosecute. Ukraine is not a 'cold war', yet Putin has been charged by the court of public opinion of war crimes against innocent civilians in Ukraine When the war ends, will justice be served? To the satisfaction of a world that embraces civil society and democracy? It is argued that punishment for war crimes is too often lip service with no real consequences. Is this true?

Erin Rosenberg will be the opening speaker for our first program, and with her experience particularly at the Hague, this program will hopefully give us some satisfaction about whether justice is indeed being met.

Dear All Souls Unitarian Church,

As Unitarian Universalists, we know that to hold Unitarian Universalist values is to live them out in the wider world and to work for justice as we are called to it. Side With Love has supported this faithful commitment for many years. One way this support has manifested itself is through a treasured annual tradition of celebrating 30 Days of Love.

30 Days of Love is a gift to our whole community: for all the individuals, families, religious professionals, partners, and groups that embody our values and work for justice and liberation year after year. Starting on Martin Luther King Jr. Day on January 16 through Valentine’s Day on February 14, 30 Days of Love will help nourish our spirits with a range of messages and practices of gratitude and affirmation. Learn more in this newsletter about each weekly theme and how to get updates on resources as they become available.

January 16 – February 14

Each week will focus on a different theme and resources will be published online each Monday:

  • Week 1: interdependence theme with a focus on democracy and electoral justice
  • Week 2: embodiment theme with a focus on LGBTQIA+, gender and reproductive justice
  • Week 3: resilience theme with a focus on climate justice
  • Week 4: healing theme with a focus on decriminalization
  • February 13-14 are bonus days with a theme of blessings and a focus on liberatory intersections.

In Our Hearts, Thoughts, and Prayers

We celebrate with Barb and Ollie Howe who welcomed their grandchild Macsen Alexander Krudy on January 2nd. Macsen weighed in at 8 lb 6 oz.

Laura Snyder's due date for her second child is February 1st! You may have seen her up on the quilts with her two-year-old daughter, Lillian. Laura, her spouse Evan, and Lillian would appreciate meals after the baby comes! Laura is planning to breastfeed. Common foods that cause colic in nursing newborns include: cabbage, turnips, broccoli, and beans, so please encourage cooks to avoid these. It's also a good idea not to be heavy-handed with garlic or onions.

The Snyders' address is:

14567 Gooseberry Dr

Fishers, IN 46038
