Upcoming Service: Sunday at 10:00am
| |
Join us this coming Sunday!
Together we will explore the difference between the notion of Stewardship of the Earth versus Dominion over the Earth. This distinction is critical in theologically framing the way forward in our work of reaching carbon zero. Join Rev. Katie, John Murphy, Nancy Olson, Gabe Perbieri and the music team for a meaningful and thought–provoking service.

Bridging the Partisan Divide Adult Forum
Adult Forum Sunday, November 12, at 11:30 in the Beattie Room, features a special presentation about "Bridging the Partisan Divide" by Braver Angels Ambassador Miles Eddy. As a life-long UU and UU Preacher-Kid, Miles will share about this national grass-roots movement and how his UU values and his wish for depolarizing within led him to his volunteer work with Braver Angels. This is a particularly important & timely topic given that November marks one year before the Presidential Election! Feel some trepidation about that? Let's welcome Miles with a good turnout. If you wish additional information about this organization, visit www.BraverAngels.org or contact Miles at meddy@braverangels.org.
We expect many people will want to attend. In order that adequate seating is set up, it would be helpful to know how many to expect. Since this is also being promoted at UU Indy and on the Braver Angels website, Miles has provided this registration link https://braver-angels-all-souls-uu-indy.eventbrite.com/. Alternatively, if you expect to attend, simply mentioning that in advance to either Cindy Cook or Mike Middleton would be appreciated.

The Social Justice Team Wants to Know What you Think
In an effort to better target the concerns of All Souls congregants in our social justice work, we are looking forward to having conversations: one-to-one conversations, small-group conversations, short conversations – long conversations – all conversations!
As part of All Souls participation in Faith in Indiana’s mission of bringing Central Indiana churches together to combat injustice, we would like to add our voices, reflecting what particular issues concern us most at this time. Over the next few weeks, we will be inviting individuals – and, organizing group discussions that will allow us to speak to as many All Souls congregants as possible.
If you already know you would like to participate, feel free to reach out to any member of the SJT (listed below) at church, and we will set up a time when we can talk.
- Jackie Anderson
- Verlann Major
- Helen Dwyer
- Lynne Rohmerien Martin
- Kate Gill Kressley
- Zachary Schenetzke
You may also email Lynne at rohmerien@msn.com, and a member of the team will be in contact with you.

Recycling is CHANGING at All Souls
While at All Souls we are seeking to do the work of not only being a Green Sanctuary but also pushing the envelope to move toward Net Carbon Zero by 2040, we are also navigating other challenges. Did you know that most plastics can't be recycled? Did you know that much of what we get in our bins is too dirty to be recycled? And, our bins have been getting contaminated with larger trash and used furniture that not only costs All Souls extra to be removed, but also contaminates the entire bin. So, we are working on a new strategy.
In the next few weeks, our bins will be going away. We are going to move to cardboard recycling and will move that bin to near where the trash is now, the styrofoam recycling will also be relocated there. We hope this will increase the possibility that things will actually be able to be used by the recycling facility and we hope that it will also help us get our trash bills under control by eliminating the use of bins that people use for illegal dumping.
If you need a new place to recycle other items, check out this link: https://www.indy.gov/activity/find-a-recycling-drop-off-location

Sponsor a Beautiful View
All Souls would like to add flowers to our chancel on a weekly basis. Sign-up to sponsor a display for $85. Your sponsorship can be in honor of an event, as a memorial, or simply to add a beautiful focus during our worship time and will be noted in the Order of Service. Sign-up here https://bit.ly/408bqFG.
Since this will be done as a means to add beauty, honor loved ones or events and FUNDRAISE, we also need people to provide flowers. If you are interested in helping to create or supply flower displays, sign-up here https://bit.ly/408bqFG. If you have any questions, contact Virginia Snell at vsnell62@gmail.com. Help us make our sanctuary bloom!

Interested in Learning Spanish in an Immersion Setting in Buenos Aires, Argentina? EXTENDED DEADLINE
If so, please complete this interest form by November 15th. By completing this form you are NOT obligated to anything or confirmed for the trip. The school we will attend is Vamos Academy. They have MANY free options for activities for students and no minimum on our group size! This is an international school so students come from all over the globe and are grouped by ability. This is simply an interest form so that we can properly craft this next trip.
The dates we are looking at are for the weeks of: July 15, 22 and 29. Rev. Katie is already booked to be there so this trip is happening! The programs will run from a Monday through Friday. Please pay attention to housing options. For a full immersion experience, consider a homestay! If you would like food with your homestay (2 meals a day) select that option, otherwise meals are on your own. Rev. Katie has also shared an airbnb option that a friend of hers stayed at and loved several years ago. It is VERY affordable with some shared spaces but individual rooms.
The more people that sign up, the greater the discount on our classes! Lastly, we are going to talk about carbon offsets for this trip once we have a final number!

Jennifer Yumibe Shares...
My grandmother started the public library in her small town of Annville, Pennsylvania - in her garage! It moved and grew over the years, and has been expanded and renovated recently. They are dedicating a large space to my grandmother, and my family are all going to the dedication on Nov. 11th.
I have very fond memories of my grandmother taking my siblings and me to the library when we visited - AFTER HOURS! It was such a treat to have the entire library to ourselves.
