Message from the General Manager

Welcoming New Food & Beverage Leadership

We are excited to welcome several new team members to our Food & Beverage operations at both Cottonwood and Palo Verde. Each brings substantial experience, leadership, and enthusiasm, and we look forward to the positive impact they will have on our clubs.


LB Smith –

Food & Beverage Manager, Cottonwood Country Club

Hello everyone! My name is LB Smith, and I’m thrilled to be joining Cottonwood Country Club as the new Food & Beverage Manager. My first official day is Saturday, January 3, and I’m very excited to be part of this team and continue my career in the golf industry.


I bring years of experience in a variety of roles, spending nearly 10 years at Whirlwind Golf Club and most recently at Mesa Country Club. Over the years, wearing many hats has helped shape my leadership style, and I believe it’s the best way to create a friendly, supportive, and successful work environment.


On a personal note, I’m a proud single mom to an amazing 23-year-old son who is currently attending ASU in the Engineering and Computer Science program. I grew up in Minnesota and have called the Valley home since 1991. In my free time, I enjoy running, spending time at the beach with family and friends, and entertaining.

Donald “Donny” Fawcett –

Executive Chef, Cottonwood

We are also pleased to welcome Donald “Donny” Fawcett as Executive Chef at Cottonwood. Donny brings an impressive culinary background and high-performance experience to our team.



Donny grew up in Wisconsin, working in 5-star restaurants, until he moved to Arizona in 2005. Most recently, Donny served as Executive Chef with Top Notch Catering, where he cooked for more than 30 professional sports teams across six major leagues. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Culinary Arts & Restaurant Management from the Scottsdale Culinary Institute and is a Sommelier Level I certified professional. One of his career highlights includes cooking at the prestigious James Beard House alongside Peter Deruvo. In his free time, he likes gardening, cooking, spending time with his family, and playing with his doggies.

David Wright –

Food & Beverage Manager, Palo Verde

Joining the Palo Verde team is David Wright, our new Food & Beverage Manager. David brings a strong, well-rounded background in both front- and back-of-house operations.


Since 2020, David has held multiple leadership roles at The Melting Pot, including Assistant General Manager, Kitchen Manager, and Service Manager. His broad operational experience, consistency, and people-first leadership style position him well to elevate service standards and enhance the overall member experience at Palo Verde. David is engaged and the father of a beautiful four-year-old girl, with her brother/sister on the way in 2026!

Please join us in welcoming LB, Donny, and David to the Sun Lakes 2 community. We’re excited about what’s ahead and look forward to the great things this team will accomplish together.
