Dear Cottonwood – Palo Verde Members,
One of the things that makes our community special is the friendly, welcoming atmosphere created by our owners, residents, guests, and staff. Every day, we see kindness, patience, and cooperation in action, and we are truly grateful for that.
At the same time, we want to take a moment to talk openly about something important: how we treat one another, especially the employees who serve our community.
Our staff members work hard to keep our facilities running smoothly and to make our community an enjoyable place to live. They deserve to feel safe, respected, and valued while doing their jobs. Unfortunately, there have been a small number of recent incidents involving disrespectful behavior toward employees, including situations serious enough to result in three suspensions.
While these cases involve only a few individuals, they affect everyone. A healthy community depends on mutual respect.
Our Shared Expectations
Chapter 4 of our governing documents, the Code of Conduct, exists to protect the peaceful environment we all enjoy. In simple terms, it reminds us that:
- Profanity and abusive language are not acceptable on Association property.
- Threats, intimidation, physical behavior, or unwanted advances toward anyone, staff, or residents are never okay.
- Employees should be treated professionally and respectfully and should receive direction only from their managers.
- Smoking is limited to designated areas, and marijuana is not permitted on Association property.
- Property damage and reckless behavior are prohibited.
- Alcohol should always be consumed responsibly, and staff are required by law to refuse service when necessary.
These rules are not meant to be punitive - they exist to ensure everyone can enjoy our community comfortably and safely.
Moving Forward Together
We believe most concerns can be avoided with a little patience, understanding, and kindness. When issues arise, we encourage our staff and members to bring them to the management so they can be handled appropriately and constructively.
By treating one another, and our staff, with courtesy and consideration, we reinforce the values that make our community a place we are proud to call home.
Thank you for being part of a community that cares about respect, safety, and one another.
Kind regards,
Andy Andrews, PCAM
General Manager
