Class of 2016 Takes the Stage
Graduating seniors across the district are taking the stage this spring to commemorate their achievements in GCISD. Students at the Bridges Accelerated Learning Center celebrated their graduation ceremony on May 17 at the Colleyville Community Center. Both the Colleyville Heritage and Grapevine High School ceremonies were held Thursday, June 2, at the University of Texas at Arlington's College Park Center. iUniversity Prep will hold its graduation ceremony on Saturday, June 11.

"Graduation is a wonderful culmination of hard work and dedication for our students and their families," said GCISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Robin Ryan. "Our students are impressive and have rightly earned this opportunity to walk across the stage and receive their diploma. Congratulations to the Class of 2016. Strong parent support and the guidance and leadership of our teachers and staff help make this achievement possible for our students. This is truly a time to celebrate."

Grapevine High School twins earn top spots in graduating class
Grapevine High School seniors and twin brothers have earned places one and two in the graduating class of 2016. Tine and Miha Valencic earned the titles of valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, as a result of their dedication to education and their success in school. Earlier this school year, Tine and Miha were also named National Merit Finalists in the scholarship program.

"I am so proud of these two exceptional students, who I have had the privilege of knowing since sixth grade," said David Denning, GHS principal. Prior to GHS, Denning was principal at Colleyville Middle School, where the students attended. "To see the growth in these students has been truly remarkable. I cannot think of better representatives of the outstanding students we have at Grapevine High School then Tine and Miha Valencic."

CHHS senior leaves her mark with outdoor classroom
Colleyville Heritage High School student Melissa Stevko has left a lasting legacy at CHHS. The Class of 2016 graduate built a new outdoor learning area in the library courtyard as part of her AVID senior service project.

AVID coordinator Andreea Pope supervised Stevko's project.

"The service learning project is an opportunity for AVID seniors to identify an issue in their community and take action to make a difference on that topic," Pope said. These projects are a required part of the AVID program. "The students also write a research editorial and create a presentation that they present to their AVID class at the end of the community service piece."
