GCISD Announces Record Number of National Merit Semifinalists
Thirty-three GCISD seniors have been named 2018 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Selection is based on the students' scores on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). GCISD's National Merit Semifinalists are part of an elite group of students representing fewer than one percent of U.S. high school seniors who show exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies. These academically talented students have the opportunity to continue in the program and compete for scholarships that will be offered next spring.  For more information on GCISD's Record Number of National Merit Semifinalists, click here.

Glenhope Takes On the Eye of the Hurricane
By: Erica DeAngelo, a Junior at Colleyville Heritage High School

As part of the student voice initiative, GCISD will periodically feature news articles written by high school journalism students.

On Tuesday, September 12th, the fifth graders of Glenhope Elementary School received a lesson on hurricanes they will never forget!  Previous to the event, the classrooms spent time covering hurricanes due to their presence all over our country's news channels. At two in the afternoon, the elementary library began to fill with lively children, eager to widen their knowledge of these tropical storms. Their unique visitor for the afternoon was meteorologist, Jason Johnson.

Trustees Tour School Improvements Funded by the 2016 Bond
Members of the GCISD Board of Trustees on Friday took a tour of several campuses to view progress on projects resulting from the May 2016 bond election. Trustees, administrators, project architect and construction management representatives made stops at Cannon Elementary: A GCISD STEM School, Grapevine Middle School, Colleyville Heritage High School's new Multipurpose Activity Center, Heritage Middle School, Timberline Elementary, Grapevine High School and Mustang-Panther Stadium.

At Cannon Elementary, Trustees got a look at the foundation area where the new school will be located. Trustees also were shown the new secure entryways installed on a number of campuses and viewed the transformed libraries, now known as the learning commons.

Board President Lisa Pardo expressed thanks to the taxpayers of GCISD for voting to approve these new facilities. "These new learning commons areas, classroom additions and other improvements are only possible because of the support of our citizens."
