In The Loop-Monthly Musings from Henrys Lake Foundation

Henrys Lake Foundation Projects

The Foundation has been involved with several projects this year. This is a summary of those endeavors.

First and foremost, the hatchery project has been our biggest project this year and will continue into next year. We talked about this project last month. 50,000 total eggs originally in the study, 25,000 each arm. Stuff happens, as they say, and IDFG planted the first batch of the fry from the Ashton hatchery in late September. There were approximately 18,300 fry measuring 2 ¾ inches on average planted then. The remainder will be grown to a much larger size (aiming for 7”) next summer/fall.

Secondly, the Foundation is helping to fund the Targhee Creek restoration project which has cleared all hurdles and will happen during the working season in 2026. This is happening on private property called Targhee Creek Ranch, the old “Slash E “property. We have substantially supported this project and look forward to dozers in the dirt!

Then there is the middle Duck Creek diversion project which we are financially supporting. The current diversion is not working properly and needs replacement. The purpose of these tributary diversion gates is to prevent trout from going up the creek and getting stuck in a temporary irrigation ditch.

Lastly, The Nature Conservancy that now owns the Howard Creek Ranch property, completed a 550-plant willow planting in early October 2025. The Foundation has financially supported this project as well. Providing shade along the creek will improve stream habitat and help create spawning pools in the creek.

These projects would not be possible without YOU, our members who so generously donate to our efforts at land and water conservation. We thank you for your donations to HLF. If you like projects such as these to happen, it relies on continued donations from our members to happen. Thank you for supporting us!  Our members are everything to us. All of your dollars are spent on these projects and others.
