One tool a stallion owner/manager can use to better understand the reproductive status of their stallion is to have a breeding soundness exam (BSE) performed. In this article, Dr. Ed Squires outlines the components of a routine BSE including a physical exam, reproductive history, testes palpation and/or ultrasound, semen evaluation, cultures and an assessment of his sexual behavior. A BSE provides valuable information on how to manage the stud and gives an indication of the number of mares he could breed. Click on the link below to learn more.
Last month, we hosted the inaugural SBS Advanced Technician Training Session at our headquarters in Maryland. This special training allowed us time to take a deeper dive into certain topics. Several technicians and veterinarians from many of our affiliate member facilities joined us for two days of hands hands on training that covered the topics of flushing epididymal sperm for freezing, preparing and reading morphology slides, proper lab techniques, and so much more! Click on the link below to find out more about the SBS Affiliate Network and the benefits stallion and mare owners experience when working with them.
New SBS Affiliate Member - 6666 Ranch Granbury Division
We wish towelcome the 6666 Ranch - Granbury Division to the SBS Network of Affiliated Laboratories! The collaboration between our facilities began 25 years ago when the SBS mobile semen freezing laboratory based out of Aubrey, TX traveled to the 6666 Ranch in Guthrie to freeze semen from their stallions. Then in 2008, the 6666 Ranch joined the group as an SBS Affiliate Member. We look forward to our continued relationship as the 6666 Ranch opens the newest chapter of their legacy.
As Thanksgiving approaches, we wish to express our gratitude
to each and everyone of our our stallion and mare owners,
fellow breeders, colleagues and friends! We appreciate you all!
