Greetings from Sing for Life!

Sing for Life had a busy year in 2025. In this newsletter we are excited to share some of the highlights from the past year and would like to invite you to renew your membership in 2026. We look forward to your support in the coming year!

Christmas Performance at EIFW

We ended the year with a big Christmas concert in the gymnasium at the Edmonton Institution for Women. The EIFW New Beginnings Choir and invited musical guests, A Joyful Noise – wednesday choir (with soloists) and accompanist Kim Couisineau, harpist Samantha Spurrier, and Jeff Johnson on bass, delivered a mixture of Christmas music. The event included a candle procession, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, and a “Silent Night challenge” where the audience won verse 2, hands down. A merry time was had by all!

An annual Sing for Life tradition is to provide warm socks as Christmas presents to all the inmates at the Edmonton Institution for Women. This year Santa delivered 200 pairs of extra warm wool socks. 🧦

New Day, New Name

The Saturday choir, our choir for inmates who are allowed to take part in community activities, now has a name! As a spin on the name New Beginnings Choir we settled on New Day Choir. In addition to women under sentence, this choir has members from our sister organization A Joyful Noise and other supporters of Sing for Life.

Edmonton Downtown Men's Choir

The men’s choir continues the partnership with CIVIDA and during the colder months we meet weekly at their downtown location, O’day-min Village. At the Village we are joined by residents who join in the singing.

During the summer months we move our rehearsals outdoors. In August, while we were singing in one of the McDougall Park gazebos, we had a visit from CTV. The visit resulted in this article and beautiful video.
