NIGHTMARE JOURNEY
-Ken and Christa Kelley
Germany was a monumental disaster. It was overcast with a cold rain for the entire time we were there. ALL of the places we were looking forward to visiting (old haunts, restaurants, etc.) were no longer there.

The traffic was horrendous so you couldn’t stop anywhere to take pictures. The hotel room was a constant 78 degrees -- even with the window open -- but the breakfast there was outstanding so we got by with two meals a day. Christa’s sister/brother-in law tried to force feed us with coffee, cakes, and German delicacies every time we visited them.

A HAND-WASHING HERO!
-Jim Weingartner
What are we being urged to do in response to the coronavirus pandemic? In addition to maintaining “social distance,” we’ve got to wash our hands frequently and thoroughly! That seems to us to be common sense, but it was not always so.

Until late in the 19 th century, even doctors neglected to wash their hands before treating patients. A surgeon might conduct an autopsy on a diseased cadaver, then operate on a patient with the same unsanitized hands. No wonder surgery was considered a last resort with slim chances of survival!

POEM: IN A TIME OF DISTANCE
Alexander McCall Smith, is one of the world’s most prolific and best-loved authors. It wasn’t until the publication of the highly successful  The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agenc y series that Alexander became a household name. He has heard from many of his readers who are re-acquainting themselves with their favorite characters during the pandemic. As a thank you, he has written this poem titled In a Time of Distance.

GOOD NEIGHBORS
- Donna Ireland
When I got my mail a little while ago, my neighbors (wife/husband) on my north side had placed an envelope in my mailbox.

The letter read “Dear Donna, This is a note from your neighbors, John and Judy. With all the uncertainties and suffering happening right now, we wanted to check in on you and see if there is anything we can do for you.

Grocery shopping, essential errands, even a small text or phone call, we are willing to provide for you. These are trying days we are in, but we would be privileged to serve you in any way. Jesus' all-consuming love compels us to do so. God bless you, Donna.”

Note from Donna: Isn't this just full of awe? I sent them an email, to let them know that I am well and wishing God's blessings upon them, and exchanged my email address, and said that I, too, am willing to help them.

A PRAYER FOR HEALTH WORKERS

Sanctify, O Lord, those whom you have called to the study and practice of the arts of healing, and to the prevention of disease and pain. Strengthen them by your life-giving Spirit, that by their ministries the health of the community may be promoted and your creation glorified; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
