In a Mid-Holiday Slump?

Holidays can be stressful in a number of ways — from eating too much, overcommitting, entertaining family, not sticking to our normal routines, and more. With all the craziness of the holidays, sometimes we forget to take care of #1 — ourselves!

Thanksgiving: Damage Done

WalletHub reports that a single Thanksgiving dinner takes a toll on Americans:

  • We spend approximately 9.6 hours preparing.
  • Hosts spend an average $396.
  • We eat an estimated 3,150-4,500 calories! (To put that in perspective, it’d take 10 hours on a treadmill for an average man to work off 4,500 calories.)
  • Men consume an average of 3.1 drinks; women drink 2.4.
  • 11% of hosts regret hosting before the event even begins.

No wonder we’re in a slump! The better you take care of yourself now, the more you can enjoy the rest of the holiday season. Here are some self-care suggestions to get you out of the slump:

Get Outside, Take a Walk

Gaining weight and feeling blah are very common issues during the holidays. The best antidote? Get outside and take a walk! Parade describes how taking a walk after a big meal is good for you — providing calmness, strengthening family bonds, and more.

Other Mid-Holiday Self-Care Ideas

The National Health Council suggests taking some time for yourself, getting active, meditating, and resting. Health Coach Institute put together a list of 20 Tips for Holiday Self-Care, which include pampering yourself, reciting affirmations, and limiting alcohol consumption.
