Twenty years ago, Elaine J. Skalabrin, MD, founded the first regional stroke education conference in Salt Lake City. This conference had the goal of educating health care providers in the latest best practices in stroke care—a critical topic as every minute counts when blood has stopped flowing to parts of the brain. In recent years, this conference has been led by University of Utah Vascular Division neurologist Lee Chung, MD.
Two years ago, Dr. Chung partnered with Intermountain Health, realizing that—together—they could bring world class expert speakers, share resources between systems, and promote greater collaboration across the region, thus creating the new Utah Regional Stroke & Neuro-Rehabilitation Conference. Several members of our Vascular Division are leading the way by presenting at this conference, such as Jennifer Majersik, MD, and Anish Deshmukh, MD.
Now, this conference is attended by over 300 neurologists, physiatrists, nurses, therapists, pharmacists, and more.
With the combined expertise of the U of U Health and Intermountain, our region is better equipped to take care of those experiencing and recovering from stroke.
