Currier Museum of Art presents Kara Walker: Harper’s Pictorial History of the Civil War (Annotated), a show that questions the narrative presented in a series of illustrations made for Harper Magazine by Winslow Homer during the Civil War. Kara Walker's reinterpretation of these images juxtaposes Homer's art with striking silhouettes that highlight "race and gender-based biases ... profound sociopolitical inequalities [and] a silenced history of violence." The museum is open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Currier Museum of Art is located at 150 Ash St., Manchester NH. For more information, please visit here.
Munch and Kirchner: Anxiety and Expression at Yale University Art Gallery
in New Haven, Connecticut through June 23

Edvard Munch, Toward the Forest I (Mot skogen I), 1897, printed 1913–15. Woodcut printed in pink and green. Collection of Nelson Blitz, Jr., and Catherine Woodard
Yale University Art Gallery presents Munch and Kirchner: Anxiety and Expression, which, as the title suggests, showcases the artwork of Edvard Munch and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, two artists whose work has been shown extensively but never alongside each other, according to a curatorial statement. The 60 works in this show are inextricably linked with the anxieties of early 20th century Europe and it shows. The expressionistic works are almost anxiety-inducing in themselves with their chaotic and monochromatic scenes.
The gallery is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Yale University Art Gallery is located at 1111 Chapel St., New Haven CT. For more information, please visit here.

Portrayed by Eakins: Ella Crowell as Model and Student at Fitchburg Art Museum
in Fitchburg, Massachusetts through June 2
| |
Thomas Eakins, Portrait of Ella Crowell, c. 1892, oil on canvas. Gift of Nancy Crowell Reinbold, 2015.33.
Fitchburg Art Museum presents Portrayed by Eakins: Ella Crowell as Model and Student. This show looks past the artist, Thomas Eakins, and at his subject and eldest niece Ella Crowell. During the years that Eakins and Crowell worked together, her mental health declined, and she died by suicide in 1897. This show examines Crowell's decline in relation to her uncle's artwork. "This exhibition considers the opportunities and limitations Ella Crowell encountered, using archival materials to trace the contours of a life lived in the shadow of America’s most celebrated portraitist." The museum is open Wednesday through Friday from 12 to 4 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the first Thursday of the month from 12 to 7 p.m. Fitchburg Art Museum is located at 185 Elm Street, Fitchburg MA. Your copy should address 3 key questions: Who am I writing for (audience)? Why should they care (benefit)? What do I want them to do (call-to-action)?
Create a great offer by adding words like "free," "personalized," "complimentary," or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take action, so consider inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining!"
