April is Autism Awareness Month
Autism Awareness Month

According to the Centers for Disease Control, autism affects an estimated 1 in 54 children in the United States today.
Project S.N.A.P.
Special Needs Assistance Program
PROJECT SNAP was created as a way to bridge the communication gap between our officers and our special needs citizens who may have difficulty communicating.

PROJECT SNAP is a database maintained by the Enterprise Police Department and is only accessible by our Officers and Dispatchers. The database will contain a photo, physical description, emergency contacts, and other special needs information of the registered participant. In the event an EPD Officer encounters an individual registered with PROJECT SNAP, our personnel can access the database and retrieve critical information that will aid in communication and the safety of the individual.

PROJECT SNAP will also provide EPD officers with annual training in effective special needs communication and de-escalation techniques.

Project SNAP stickers are currently available for a $5.00 donation at the following locations: Boll Weevil Soap Company, Shopaholics on Main Street, Enterprise Chamber of Commerce, and the Police Department.

ALDOR Offers Updated Guidance on Income Tax
Filing Extension
Due date for filing and payment of 2020 individual income taxes
extended to May 17

MONTGOMERY, April 15, 2021 – Today, Governor Kay Ivey signed SB352, which automatically extends due dates for income tax and Financial Institution Excise Tax payments originally due between April 15 and June 30 if the corresponding federal payment has been extended by the IRS. The guidance issued by the Alabama Department of Revenue (ALDOR) on March 18, 2021, regarding payment and filing extensions announced by the IRS has been updated to address the extension of the payment due date for individual income tax for the 2020 tax year.

UPDATED GUIDANCE: On March 17, the Treasury Department and the IRS issued IR-2021-59, which provides for an automatic extension of the filing and payment date for individual 2020 income tax returns from April 15, 2021, to May 17, 2021.

EIGHTH WEEK OF 2021 LEGISLATIVE SESSION
Busy Legislative Week Results in Advancement of BCA Legislative Priority, Other Bills of Interest

The Alabama Legislature held a three-day work week which resulted in the completion of its 19th, 20th and 21st legislative working days.

Both the House and Senate debated several hot-button issues, whether in committee or on the chamber floor. BCA saw another big legislative victory this week when HB 408, a legislative priority issue, received final passage in the Senate on Tuesday. HB 408, sponsored by representative Rep. Wes Kitchens in the House and Sen. Clay Scofield in the Senate, now goes to the Governor for her signature. If signed into law, this legislation will provide businesses with clear and consistent guidelines when classifying employees.
The Senate also passed a bill would allow the Secretary of State to waive the $25 Certificate of Existence fee if a state of emergency has been declared and a bill that would establish a statewide lottery. The House Judiciary Committee approved an amended version of the Senate bill that would authorize the use of medical marijuana in the state.

Navigating Home Ownership
There's plenty to look forward to when buying your first home, from searching online to touring various homes and neighborhoods. But after the initial thrill of deciding to take the plunge, what comes next? How long will it be before you're hanging art on the walls and
becoming one of the neighbors?

Here are a few things we will consider in our workshop titled
Navigating Home Ownership:

  • Learn the process of becoming a homeowner.
  • What to expect as a down payment.
  • What are closing cost?
  • Why is a real estate agent important?
  • What are the other costs I need to consider?
  • Am I ready to be a homeowner?
