We mourn the loss of our dear friend and stalwart supporter of the Jewish Community, Dr. Philip "Phil" Margolis.
Phil will be remembered for many accomplishments, but most of all for his dedication to the community both professionally and personally. He served the community for over 50 years in various leadership roles in psychiatric healthcare. He continued to consult and serve patients into his 90th year.
We were blessed to have Phil's guidance and expertise as a founding member of the JFS Advisory Council. Over the years he was a wonderful resource as we shaped the counseling services offered at JFS. In addition to his professional advice, we simply appreciated spending time with Phil as he was a friendly, caring person who took a genuine interest in others.
His co-chair of the JFS Advisory Council, Phyllis Herzig, had this to say, "Phil brought a background of experience, understanding, and compassion for clients that was very much appreciated and relevant to the agency."
Phil, along with his beloved wife, Nancy, passionately and generously supported and sustained JFS and the services that we provide. We are deeply grateful for their support and friendship.
Phil truly embodied the meaning of the word “Mensch”, a man of a big heart. While he will be greatly missed, his brilliant contributions to the medical community, his generous humanitarian spirit, warmth, kindness, and gentle manner, will live on in his family and in all of us.
May his memory be a blessing, and may Nancy and the entire Margolis family be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem. Baruch Dayan Ha’Emet.
