Community Connections

We've had some great opportunities to connect with our communities in the last few weeks! On August 28th, we were lucky enough to join friends and allies at the Akron Pride Festival. It was fantastic to see everyone come together to support our LGBTQIA+ community!

Just one week later, Vapsters were jamming to Jeff Klemm and Marc Lee Shannon at the Falls Downtown Fridays event hosted by the City of Cuyahoga Falls! With help from all who stopped by to enjoy great food, craft beer, and live music, we raised $5,000 to help us continue to serve victims of crime and trauma in Summit County!

Participants who complete this 40 hour course will become equipped to use NOVA’s (National Organization for Victim Assistance) crisis intervention model to assist individuals impacted by victimization or traumatic events. Additionally, participants will increase their knowledge about the judicial system, victims’ rights as well as resources available for both victims and the advocate providing the service.
Victim Assistance Program (VAP), the leading expert in crisis intervention for victims of crime and trauma in Northeast Ohio, is growing! As one of the first victim services agencies established in the United States, we are driven to expand the blueprint our founder established in 1972. Residents and employees of Summit County need crisis intervention services to address the aftermath of their victimization or traumatic events before being able to engage in their everyday routines. Victim Assistance Program is the only agency in Summit County providing this immediate service, 24 hours a day.

As a SCCRT volunteer, you will provide trauma-informed services to victims, family members and communities impacted by crisis, violence, or tragedy, by offering immediate crisis intervention and advocacy via phone, chat, text, or in-person to address the aftermath of the client’s victimization.

Not all work is done on the front lines, as the needs of victims fluctuate from “all the time” to next to none. Providing crisis response and advocacy services are only a part of the impact you’ll have for our agency. During your downtime, not only will you help the agency complete much needed tasks, but you will have the opportunity to enhance your own skills through required trainings.
