CURRENT MITIGATION MEASURES: Governor Pritzker announced Tier 3 Resurgence Mitigations statewide on Friday, November 20. While not a stay-at-home order, it places further restrictions on capacities of retail, restaurants, and public gatherings indoors. The Macon County COVID-19 Taskforce also held a press conference encouraging schools and churches to go to only virtual gatherings through January 15.
Since the current mitigations do not impact our attendance (up to 25 can gather in person with masks), we will continue 9 am in-person service. We will encourage those who are able or capable to go virtual to stay home, permitting our non-digital and vulnerable to attend. If you can connect with us on your computer, phone, or tablet device, we do not expect you to show up for in person service.
The Dove, Inc. Children's Clothing Room is closed until January. All groups and activities are virtual only.
LIVESTREAMING OUR SANCTUARY: Work is beginning toward enabling the sanctuary to serve as our live studio, with quality video and audio equipment to be set up for online broadcasting. Lighthouse Electric & Decatur Computers have installed a fixed data line to our balcony to assure quality data connection to the internet. We await word on an updated project list and timeline from Rutherford Video.

Wilderness Comfort: God's Unexpected Address
Saturday, December 5, 5 pm - Online
Sunday, December 6, 9 am
|
|
Did you miss a sermon or can't remember the good statement made by Pastor Jason recently?
|
|
There's something scary about being in the wilderness. There is the physical wilderness, the middle of nowhere places that seem empty, desolate, and lacking life. Then there is the theoretical wilderness in our spiritual, emotional, and psychological existence--times when we are alone, destitute, feeling as if nothing will work, that nothin can be done. The internal wilderness of despondency, isolation, doubt, fear, or anger, and wondering, "Where, oh where, is God in the midst of all of this?"
This passage from Isaiah was written during an intense time in Israel's history. Just like ourselves, the Israelites ignored warnings about turning away from God, until the Babylonians conquered and destroyed Jerusalem. Most of the royal court and leadership were then sent into a foreign country (to quell rebellion), where God was also with them (something unexpected, since gods often were thought to be geographically confined.) Every time there is exile, there God also goes among and with the people.
God knows our wilderness. God went (and will continue to go) wherever God's people go.

Christmas Special Day Offering
December 13 & 20
|
As partners in the ministry, the Regional Church and local congregations work together. The staff and volunteers in the Regional church serve local congregations and their leaders by:
• Starting new churches
• Providing engaging camps & youth events
• Helping congregations with their communication initiatives
• Creating global connections in Guatemala & other countries
• Leading anti-racism training
• Promoting congregational transformation
• Assisting congregations with telling Life Giving & Life Changing Stories
• Offering mission opportunities
• Providing a School for Ministry
The School for Ministry started out as a noble concept with a mission to prepare men and women to serve as Commissioned Ministers (DOC) and Lay Ministers (UCC) for the 21st Century. Now entering its third year of service, the School currently enrolls 19 students from all walks of life. At the end of their journey, they will earn a Certificate of Pastoral Ministry, awarded in a partnership with the School and Phillips Theological Seminary. We continue to prepare new shepherds to feed God’s sheep in a world hungry for justice, love, and peace.
Thank you for sharing your fine gifts for the ministries we share through The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Illinois and Wisconsin. Your offerings make a difference! 100% of your gifts to the Christmas Offering support CCIW. “Together Making Disciples of Christ”
