Community-led project gives seniors a sense of closure and celebration during pandemic

LANCASTER - Late spring usually marks the end of the school year, as seniors prepare to move onto the next phase of the life and celebrate their academic achievements.

But due to the coronavirus pandemic, the class of 2020 will not have a traditional graduation ceremony.

In an effort to celebrate the seniors of Lancaster High School, one group, led by Victory Hill Church, created gift boxes for the class of 2020.

Chris White, a pastor with Victory Hill, said the project started as an idea. The congregation wanted to see how far it could grow.

"We thought the gift boxes were a good idea because these kids won't get the chance to have a traditional graduation. It took some time to see what we could put in the boxes that would be meaningful, but once we had an idea it took off," he said.
