CAMBA’s President and CEO Joanne M. Oplustil has been selected as one of New York’s 50 Most Powerful People in the Nonprofit Community.  City & State newspaper named Joanne to this list. Its NY’s power lists have been a long standing institution in New York and for the first time it is celebrating the Nonprofit Power 50 list. Joanne will join the other honorees for an October 11 celebratory reception. A hearty congratulations to our leader!
Project ALY's Annual Campaign Makes the News!
News 12 Brooklyn and El Diario-La Prensa newspaper took notice of CAMBA's campaign to promote parental acceptance of LGBTQ youth and reported on our efforts on the air on September 24; and in print September 27. Through Project ALY (Accept LGBTQ Youth), CAMBA has strived to be a leader in creating a healthier city for these youths and their families. Legislative Teams Tour CAMBA programs

CAMBA 's staff welcomed legislative aides for U.S. Representatives Hakeem Jeffries and Carolyn Maloney for a day-long tour of our programs to demonstrate the importance of federal funding for these efforts. The September 27th tour's first stop was CAMBA Gardens II--our newest affordable and supportive housing site; a visit to the Kensington Family Shelter and the various programs to assist families moving to permanent housing; and finally at PS 3 where our after-school efforts were on display as children learned to play the violin and took part in the Ready Readers program. Joining the tour organized by CAMBA's federal advocacy consultants Molly Nix and Kerrie Rushton were Jessie Kay and Victor Montesinos from Rep. Maloney's office and Michelle Brotman and Marie Figueroa from Rep. Jeffries' office.
Bringing Hope and Beauty to Howard Houses' Cornerstone
Beautification Day on September 15th was a great success at CAMBA's Howard Houses Cornerstone with the support of five community partners Brownsville In Violence Out (BIVO), Brookdale Hospital, Emblem Health, GrowNYC and HOPEWorldWide . The partners donated snacks for more than 300 people , and dozens of families enjoyed other donated items that included art and school supplies, and athletic equipment. The volunteers also helped with maintenance, gardening and painting the walls in the program area.

CAMBA provides desperately needed food to thousands of hungry New Yorkers every month . For Thanksgiving we work to ensure families receive a holiday meal with all the fixings to make the day special.
