Vancouver Lake Photos 8/4/2025

Flushing channel mouth - dense, thick, green scum is a classic harmful cyanobacteria bloom.

Microscope samples at Vancouver lake show dolichospermum, microcystis, and planktothrix species of cyanobacteria. All three are able to produce toxins.

Pack In, Pack Out!

Millions of pounds of trash end up in waterways every year. Plastics break down into microplastics that are easily eaten by fish and as a result, humans. The chemicals in trash can also leech into the environment and cause harm. Remember:

  • Throw trash in designated bins
  • Don't use a bin if it's overflowing
  • Dispose of diapers and pet waste appropriately
  • Don't bring loose objects on watercraft
  • Always pack in, pack out!
