We are here to help you get ready for the 2023 swim season. Did you know we offer a scheduled pre-season educational inspection instead of an unannounced routine inspection? Any violations observed will not be reported on our website. These inspections will focus on items that need to be corrected prior to reopening to protect bathers from illness or injury.

The Washington Department of Health is hosting their annual Pool & Spa Conference April 18th, 9:00am-12:00pm PST virtually via Zoom. Topics include water balance, pH, disinfection, water chemistry, pool equipment, and more!

Are you ready for the 2023 summer swim season?

Barriers and gates must be secure and prevent unwanted entrance

Equipment should be in good working order and free of corrosion

Clean your equipment, pool, deck surfaces, and balance water chemistry

Remember to...

Review all emergency equipment such as life ring with rope, 12-ft hook, first aid kit, and safety signage.
Verify emergency shut-off and emergency phone works.
Assess your deck for trip hazards and check handrails are fastened tightly
Go through your chemical testing kit and replace any expired or fouled reagents
Check drain covers, inlets, outlets, and skimmers for entrapment risks such as loose screws, cracks, or missing covers.

Check Your Numbers: Water Quality

Chlorine Sanitizer

Check the container's active ingredients if you are unsure what is being used.

Non-stabilized: sodium hypochlorite (liquid), calcium hypochlorite (briquettes, granule, pucks)

Non-stabilized spa/wading pool:

3.0-10 ppm

Non-stabilized pool: 1.5-10 ppm

Stabilized: trichlor, dichlor (pucks, granule

for shock)

Stabilized spa/wading pool: 3.5-10 ppm
Stabilized pool: 2.0-10 ppm

Combined chlorine cannot exceed 50% of the amount of free chlorine. Recommended amount is 0 ppm.

Bromine must be maintained at 4.0-10 ppm for spas, 2.5-10 ppm for pools

Test and record daily:

Free chlorine (or Bromine) & Combined chlorine

pH: 7.2-8.0

Temperature (if maintained above 95 deg F): 104 deg F maximum

Flow Rate: entire volume must turnover every 6 hours for pools, every 30 minutes for spas

Clarity: drains should be clearly visible

Test and record weekly:

Alkalinity: 80-120ppm recommended range for plaster and vinyl pools

Cyanuric Acid (if using stabilized chlorine or supplemental cyanuric acid):

90 ppm maximum
