Happy New Year from IPHA!

We've got some exciting things on the way this year. First up is our 2023 Policy & Advocacy Forum, which takes place on January 19. More student opportunities are in the works too, as our Student Advisory Group applications open at the end of this month! We'll also be joining the Public Health Day at the State House on January 26. (Be aware that several of our regular meetings are rescheduled due to advocacy events this month!)

2022 was a big year for IPHA, thanks to your support! In addition to celebrating our 75th Anniversary, we were honored by two awards from the APHA Council of Affiliates, and were bolstered by growth throughout our organization and membership.

Our 2022 Annual Report outlines all of this and more. Check out the report for organizational updates, event reviews, and program wins from last year. You'll also find some sneak peaks about what's in store for 2023!

We're accepting 2023 Public Health Hero nominations!

We're accepting nominations to feature Indiana's public health heroes each month, including the governmental and non-governmental workforce, professionals in community-based organizations, clinical care partners, academic faculty and staff, and students. Use this form to nominate a peer, colleague, or even yourself!

We're kicking off the new year with the IPHA 2023 Policy & Advocacy Forum! As we advocate for the implementation of the Governor's Public Health Commission Report recommendations, we'll discuss "From Recommendations to Reality: Your Role in Advocating for Public Health in Indiana." Learn, network, and leave with more confidence in your advocacy skills than ever before. The Forum is January 19, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. ET.

Region V Public Health Training Center

Get ready for our first IPHA Lunch Meet-Up of the year! We'll be joined by Amy Carter, MSW, MPA, CCAP as our guest presenter to discuss connecting your experience in public health to legislative action. Amy is the Community Outreach and Engagement Coordinator at the Indiana Community Action Poverty Institute. Her favorite part of her job is talking about policy - so join us just in time for the start of legislative session! Join the conversation by registering here.

Indiana Public Health Association, in partnership with Health by Design, is now accepting proposals to provide project planning services for the Health Equity Action Team (HEAT). We invite you to submit a proposal to us by Wednesday, February 1, 2023, for consideration. Applications for the IPHA Student Advisory Group (SAG) 2023-2024 cohort open on January 27!  

The SAG serves as a key liaison between IPHA leadership and Indiana student stakeholders. Join us to serve as a voice for student needs and guide IPHA’s efforts to provide students with meaningful engagement opportunities! See student member eligibility requirements and duties below: 

SAG Student Member Eligibility Requirements 

• Must be an IPHA member 
• Must be an undergraduate or graduate student at an Indiana college or university 
• Must be pursuing a health-related degree and/or have a specific interest in public health 
• Must graduate in Spring 2024 or later 



SAG Student Member Duties 

• Participate in monthly SAG meetings 
• Contribute ~5 hours/month to SAG activities 
• Commit to 1-year term of service (Fall 2023 - Spring 2024)
