Virtual Event Thursday, June 24, 5-6pm
To commemorate Pride Month, Controller Galperin is hosting a discussion in his "Conversations with the Controller" series featuring civic, business and nonprofit leaders in the LGBTQ+ community. Participants include:
  • Michaela Mendelsohn, Founder, Trans Can Work and CEO, Pollo West Corp.
  • Marquita Thomas, Executive Director, Los Angeles LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce
  • Lisa Middleton, Mayor Pro Tem, City of Palm Springs
Scheduled for June 24, the event will highlight how the different sectors have worked to uplift LGBTQ+ employees and eliminate barriers to advancement, while also recognizing the important and practical work that remains to be done.

"The workplace has been different this past year, but still incredibly challenges for many in the LGBTQ+ community," said Controller Galperin. "While we’ve certainly made progress in building more inclusive job environments, there is still so much work to do. Please join me on June 24 and invite your friends, family, peers and colleagues to participate in this important discussion."

Shakespeare by the Sea
Richard III Opens in July!
You can attend Shakespeare by the Sea like you have in the past!

The LA County Health Department announced the lifting of all previous protocols, which means that we do not have to fence in the seating area, or institute ticketing, and that all patrons are welcome. Grab your benches or patch of grass to enjoy Shakespeare under the stars at the clifftop Point Fermin Park - it's absolutely stunning!

To ensure the safety of all of our artists and patrons, we are strongly encouraging any non-vaccinated individuals to wear masks while on the premises (or a face shield at the minimum).

Beautify LA Grants
The Board of Public Works, Office of Community Beautification (OCB) and Keep Los Angeles Beautiful (KLAB) have launched the KLAB Community Beautification Grant or Beautify LA Grant. The new grant program will support the efforts of community-based groups to beautify public spaces throughout Los Angeles and empower individuals to take personal action to improve their neighborhoods. Groups do not have to be official organizations - they can be as small as a constituent and their neighbors. More information can be found in the proposal packet available for download at http://laocb.org/beautify-la-grant/

The Beautify LA Grant is a competitive matching grant of up to $2,500 that will be awarded to selected community-based groups in the City of Los Angeles to fund exceptional neighborhood beautification projects that are designed to enhance the public spaces where they live, work, and play.

OCB and KLAB are now accepting proposals for the Beautify LA Grant until the submission deadline on Wednesday, June 30, 2021.

Protect Yourself. Protect Your Loved Ones. Get Vaccinated
While masking and distancing remain effective means for reducing transmission, the most powerful tool we have for keeping cases down and protecting ourselves and others are the COVID-19 vaccines. As of June 18th, we have administered more than 10 million doses of vaccine in the county – this is a tremendous milestone for us, and the product of truly remarkable cooperation with so many partners.

The Department of Public Health encourages everyone unvaccinated for COVID-19 to get vaccinated ahead of time to celebrate Fourth of July safely. If the Pfizer or Moderna two-dose vaccines are your preference, it is strongly recommended that you begin your two-dose series as soon as possible to have some limited protection before the July 4th holiday.
