Open Enrollment for Affordable Healthcare

Open enrollment under the Affordable Care Act began November 1 and lasts until January 31, 2017. If you want your coverage to begin on the first of the year, you will have to enroll by December 15. Now is the time to compare healthcare plans so that you can find the best one for you. You and your clients can learn more about the Health Insurance Marketplace and how to apply for benefits at .
Taking a Stand Against the Repeal of the Affordable Care Act (ACA)

The NJ for Health Care Coalition is bracing for a fight to preserve the Affordable Care Act (ACA), which President-elect Donald Trump has said he will scrap in the first days of his administration. New Jersey Policy Perspective's (NJPP) Executive Director Ray Castro reported on approximately $3 billion the state would lose annually and the hundreds of thousands who would be left uninsured under a plan to repeal the ACA.

NJPP has issued findings on the human and economic costs of doing away with the ACA. Mr. Castro said the Republicans' ultimate plan is to have Medicaid shifted to block grants, which would prove to be a disaster for the public insurance program. Were this to take place, states and individuals would bear a far greater share of health care costs. To link to the full NJPP report, go to: The Health Care Coalition plans to press the NJ Legislature to adopt a resolution opposing the health care law's repeal. It is also laying the groundwork to urge New Jersey's Congressional delegation to oppose the repeal. The Coalition is collecting stories from people who have benefited under the Affordable Care Act. Social Work Month 2017 - Social Workers Stand Up!

NASW will launch a "Social Workers Stand Up" campaign during Social Work Month in March 2017. The campaign will focus on educating the public about how social workers stand up for others, including some of the most vulnerable people in our society, and make positive contributions to society. The campaign will also highlight the importance of the social work title, and why getting the assistance of an educated and licensed social worker is so important. Look for more details about the campaign to be posted here.
Attention Private Practitioners: Unclaimed Property

The State of New Jersey Unclaimed Property Administration has newer regulations requiring all businesses, including social workers in private practice, to register with them and to file an annual report every year on their website at  Click on "Report Properties Online" both to register and to file a report.

You can still file for 2015 and 2016. Reports must be done each year by November 1. No fines are being levied at this time for not having registered with the Unclaimed Property Administration, but may be in the future.  They are first waiting to get all businesses registered.  By law, all businesses are supposed to be registered with the State.  If yours is not, go to for further information.
