While the new year may be upon us, some exhibitions have carried over from 2023. These three shows are closing within the first two months of 2024, and from retrospectives looking at a career full of art to a sculptor's analysis of his own process, these show's are worth checking out in the new year.

Currier Museum of Art presents Sanaa Gateja: Selected Works, highlighting the career of Sanaa Gateja, a Ugandan artist who studied interior design in Italy and jewelry design in London. And Gateja's background shows up in his art. Intricate patterns and designs made of paper beads that are dyed and affixed to barkcloth ride the line between the abstract and figurative. According to a curatorial statement, this show closely follows his inclusion in the 58th Carnegie International and his first solo show, at Karma in New York City. The museum is open Friday through Sunday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Currier Museum of Art is located at 150 Ash Street
Manchester, NH. For more information, please visit here.

Addison Gallery of American Art presents Free Association: New Acquisitions in Context, a show that, as the title suggests, places a focus on the gallery's newest additions to its collection. But new works don't exist in a vacuum, each piece is surrounded by other works collected over the Addison's nearly 100-year history. These associations create a dialogue between old and new, putting everything in a new light. The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. Addison Gallery of American Art is located at 3 Chapel Avenue, Andover MA. Boston Sculptors Gallery presents Andy Moerlein: Ten Thousand Labors, an introspective show where sculptor Andy Moerlein shares the "perpetual physical dance" he has with his work. Though primarily a sculptor, Moerlein explores video, photography and collaged images to demonstrate the effort and toll that can go into three-dimensional artwork. Evoking Sisyphean imagery, his images show the real, physical effort that goes into sculpture. The gallery is open Wednesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be a SOWA First Friday reception on Friday, January 5 from 5 to 8:30 p.m. and a closing reception on Saturday, January 27 from 2 to 5 p.m. with an artist talk at 3 p.m. Boston Sculptors Gallery is located at 486 Harrison Ave., Boston MA.
