General Convention News
The 80th General Convention is scheduled for July 7–14, 2022, at the Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore, Maryland. The General Convention is the largest gathering of Episcopalians from across the church, domestically and abroad, with hundreds of bishops and elected lay and ordained deputies, plus many volunteers, guests, and other visitors also participating.
“Reports to the 80th General Convention of The Episcopal Church,” commonly referred to as “The Blue Book,” is now available online and in print. (https://www.generalconvention.org/bluebook2021) The Spanish translation of this publication, “El Libro Azul,” is also available in both formats.

Host to a refugee congregation
In 2019, the 151st Convention of the Diocese of Central New York recognized Diäŋdït Chapel, a congregation rooted in Syracuse’s South Sudanese refugee community, as a mission chapel of the diocese.

(RNS) — On the corner of East Avenue and West Yates Street in East Syracuse, New York, sits Emmanuel Episcopal Church. The quaint building, with its bright white exterior and cherry red doors, is the home to not one, but two distinct congregations. Creation Care: "Only more so" - Article by Peter Koeppel, member of Trinity Memorial Church in Binghamton and the diocesan Stewardship Resources team.
Years ago, a friend shared with me, “If you want to beat the system, play by its rules, only more so.
“Only more so” can be a dangerous perspective: its self-righteous cousins are pride of outdoing each other (“He who has more toys, wins”), and self-righteousness (remember the Pharisee and the tax collector?).
That’s obviously not what we’re talking about here; we’re not competing with each other who’s got more toys, or who is greener. We’re talking about redirecting a system which would love to keep us hooked on fossil fuel-derived energy by playing by its rules, only more so. Does our challenge sound like moving a mountain? Diocese of Haiti
To Love a Child is an organization in the Diocese of Albany that works to help children in Haiti. Here is a report from their October Newsletter:
Where do we begin? First, we managed to get provisions to the southwest part of the country within a week after the devastating earthquake which left 130,000 houses, over 1,000 schools and some 90 health centres damaged or destroyed. The situation is further complicated by gangs controlling highways resulting in very serious fuel shortages and the reduced supply of goods. Read more >

'The Worst I've Seen': Three churches describe Hurricane Ida recovery - “That was definitely a wild night,” said the Rev. Paula Toland. “We saw our neighbors’ cars floating” by St. Stephen’s, Millburn, where she serves as Rector.
“We have a sexton who lives on property – he and his wife had to run to get out of the way when the water rushed in,” said Pam Fueshko, Warden at St. Peter’s, Clifton.

Diocese of New Jersey
The October 30 rally - Say The Word: Reparations - attracted supporters from throughout the state of New Jersey. The Episcopal Diocese of New Jersey was one of the sponsors of the event.
On Oct. 30, 2021, 200 people representing a statewide coalition of faith-based and civic-action groups, came together at historic St. Peter’s Perth Amboy to urge the State Legislatures to pass Bills S322/A711 to establish a state reparations task force to study ways to redress historical and systemic racism in the state of New Jersey.

In his address to the 245th Convention of the Diocese of New York, the Right Reverend Andrew ML Dietsche, XVI Bishop of New York, called for the election of a Bishop Coadjutor to replace him, ultimately, as the XVII Bishop of New York.
"Four days ago," he said, "I turned 68 (which was kind of shocking: 67 felt like my “mid-sixties; 68 feels like my “late-sixties”). And last month I passed the twentieth anniversary of my coming to 1047 Amsterdam Avenue to serve the Diocese of New York, initially as Canon Pastor. And six days from today will mark ten years since you elected me bishop. "

Partnering with Christ Episcopal Church to Provide Flood Relief in Steuben County, NY - Web Statement, September 14, 2021
Episcopal Relief & Development is partnering with Christ Episcopal Church of Corning, NY, to provide emergency assistance to communities that were impacted by flash flooding after Tropical Storm Fred.
The remnants of Tropical Storm Fred swept across the northeastern US the week of August 16, soaking areas of central New York state with heavy rains. Steuben County, in southwestern New York, declared a state of emergency due to flash flooding that washed out roads and inundated the lower levels of buildings. Read more >

Atchison Contributes Essay on Climate Change and Racism to Episcopal Church Website
Dr. Gabrie'l Atchison, the diocesan missioner for administration, has contributed an essay on the interaction of racism and climate change to the Episcopal Church website.
"Environmental racism (or environmental injustice) also calls attention to the ways in which environmental hazards cause lasting health disparities for BIPOC communities," she writes. "I grew up in the South Bronx, where Black and Brown children disproportionately live with and die from asthma. Completed one year after I was born, the Cross Bronx Expressway was designed to connect suburbs to employment centers in Manhattan with a total disregard for the well-being of the people in Bronx neighborhoods. City planners chose my neighborhood as a good location to store and dump toxic waste. Communities here in Buffalo face similar public health challenges because of the Peace Bridge and Scajaquada Expressway."
