A Las Posadas Celebration: Meeting Where We Are

On Sunday, December 19, 2021, the South Bronx Team Ministry [a shared ministry comprised of Misión de San Juan Bautista, St. David’s, St. Edmund’s, and St. Simeon’s] and St. Margaret’s celebrated Las Posadas (A Service of shelter for the Holy family) jointly for the first time. These two entities collaborated and worshipped at this one-of-a-kind bilingual Christian, biblical, and evangelistic service which bears its roots from the Hispanic culture. The service embodied a collection of Advent, Marian and Christmas songs accompanied with prayers and reflections in both English and Spanish. Las Posadas is a cherished Advent tradition that has been celebrated among families in Mexico and other Latin American countries for hundreds of years.

Break the Silence Sunday

Break The Silence Sunday is an effort to open up a conversation within the church about rape and sexual assault. Within the context of our faith communities we hope to

  1. acknowledge the reality of rape and sexual violence in our world;
  2. support survivors by creating a place where they can tell their stories, feel loved and supported,and find encouragement on their healing journey;
  3. commit ourselves to the work of changing the world, creating a future where rape is a memory. Find out more >

A quote from Thich Nhat Hanh (10/11/1926 – 01/22-2022) in The Long Road Turns to Joy is something that I keep in mind as I walk the many wildlife refuges, conservation areas, and parks of my relatively new state of New Jersey. Walking in a new places gives part of my mind a new adventure and frees me up to set another portion of my mind peacefully on prayer. Prayer for me is a chance to “be”—in and for God, in peace, in rest, in beauty, in request, or in lament. Read the whole story by The Very Rev. Dr. Caroline Carson >

On January 22 the Steward Helpers delivered 215 hot breakfasts to our elderly, folks who live alone and our homeless siblings across the community. In this time of strife and struggle for so many, we continue to give thanks for the opportunity to serve, even as we advocate for systems of justice that can help to facilitate no one being hungry or Homeless in the midst of plenty. Thank you God for willing hands and hearts of all ages, genders, and races that the Steward Helpers represent. We are blessed indeed! See more photos on the All Saints Cathedral School FaceBook page >
