Report from EpisComm22
The annual conference of Episcopal Communicators was held in person for the first time in two years at the DeSoto Hotel in Savannah, Georgia on May 3-6, 2022. It was a wonderful gathering with opportunities for fellowship and sharing. Episcopal Communicators is a self-supporting organization of communication professionals working in the Episcopal Church for dioceses, congregations and organizations. Its mission is to foster community that inspires and supports excellence in church communications.
The keynote speakers were Ryan Casey Waller,a licensed psychotherapist, writer, speaker, lawyer, and Episcopal priest, and sociologist, best-selling author, lecturer, humorist, and storyteller, Bertice Berry, PhD. Dr. Waller spoke about resiliance and Dr. Berry spoke about fulfilling our baptismal covenant to “Strive for justice and peace among all people and respect the dignity of every human being.” Both were excellent!

In 2021, Bishop Hughes announced the formation of three new diocesan groups: the Racial History Committee, the Racial Justice and Healing Commission, and the Commission for Justice and Peace. These groups join the Anti-Racism Commission in forming a fulsome approach to justice ministry in our diocese. In this video, the co-leaders of these four justice ministry groups provide an update, describing their purpose, their plans going forward, and how you can get congregations involved and support their work.

Choir Camp is on!
We will once again have choir camp this summer! It will take place at Holiday House/Cape May on July 17-21. The choir camp experience gives young choristers the opportunity to join with peers from communities throughout the Diocese and the region. This intense period of growth—socially, musically, and spiritually—provides experiences that last a lifetime. Choristers leave choir camp with a sense of enthusiasm that they bring back to their respective parishes and communities that help spread the Gospel and grow the church! Read more >

Bishop's Writing / Enews April 2022
Dear Friends in Christ Jesus,
As I write, Covid is once again surging in our region. In the last few days, priests of the diocese and a member of the staff have tested positive for the virus. I urge you all to be cautious about in-person meetings and encourage masking for public worship. I remind you that the common cup is not authorized yet, and I hope we will continue to keep the needs of the vulnerable at the forefront of our thinking as we go about our ministries. I am taking a break from in-person meetings for a couple of weeks.
I want to spend the rest of this note raising some questions about the election of the next bishop. These are questions for you to ponder as we begin to make preparations for that election. Read more >

The Episcopal Dioceses of Western New York and Northwestern Pennsylvania
Creating Spaces for Children Program on May 21 - On May 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. the partnership dioceses will hold "Creating Spaces for Children" at Trinity, Fredonia . The Rev. Anne E. Kitch , a specialist in the faith formation of children, leadership consultant, retreat leader, and author, will lead the program.
"How can we best nurture our children and youth in this time? What gifts do our children and youth bring to this space we now inhabit? Join others for conversation, learning, and visioning about how we support our youngest as full members of the church," Kitch writes.
The program will begin with worship, and afterward, participants will explore the relationships we have, or want to have, with children in the church. "We’ll navigate the landscape of worship, ministry beyond Sunday school, and other programs for children and youth," Kitch writes. "Small groups will meet in the afternoon on topics such as intergenerational worship, Godly Play, and hands-on experiences that invite all to live more fully into our Baptismal Covenant."
The cost to attend Creating Spaces for Children is $15 and includes lunch. The deadline to register is May 15.
