Empire State Development Awards BioInc@NYMC More Than One Million Dollars
BioInc@NYMC, New York Medical College's flourishing biotechnology incubator, has received 1.25 million dollars awarded by Empire State Development (ESD) and the Mid-Hudson Regional Development Council (REDC) to support the school's commitment to fostering innovation and prosperity in the Mid-Hudson region and its operations as a New York State-designated Innovation Hot Spot. The award follows earlier ESD awards in which the REDC recognized BioInc@NYMC as a regional priority and is the second largest award in the region this year.

Touro Dental Health is Open for Business
 The Touro College of Dental Medicine at New York Medical College is pleased to announce its new state-of-the-art dental health facility, Touro Dental Health, is now open, providing affordable oral healthcare for the community and advanced educational training for dental students. The 32,000-square-foot oral health facility, located at 19 Skyline Drive, will provide care by dentists-in-training under close supervision of faculty and dental professionals. Patients of all ages will be treated in the areas of general dentistry, oral and maxillofacial surgery, endodontics, periodontics, prosthodontics, pediatric dentistry, cosmetic dentistry and oral medicine. Appointments are available from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and can be scheduled by contacting Touro Dental Health at (914) 594-2700 or

SHSP Spreads Holiday Cheer
 The Division of Health Policy and Management in the Department of Public Health in the School of Health Sciences and Practice (SHSP) hosted their annual Winter Meet and Greet for Dr.P.H. and M.P.H. students on December 5. Forty-five faculty, students and alumni joined the festivities and had the chance to meet Mark J. Kittleson, Ph.D., center, chair of the Department of Public Health, who addressed the group. The Winter Meet and Greet also served as an opportunity to help underprivileged children. Attendees brought gifts for children of families at the Greenburgh Health Center, which is led by SHSP alumna Judith M. Watson, R.N., B.S.N., M.P.H. '07, executive director. From left: Cindy A. Jakubowski, administrative secretary, Division of Health Policy and Management, Kenneth A. Knapp, Ph.D., assistant professor of health policy and management and co-director of the Center for Long-Term Care; Carol Wallace of the Greenburgh Health Center, who delivered the gift donations to the Center; Hasanat Alamgir, M.B.A., Ph.D., associate professor of health policy and management and co-director of the Center for Long-Term Care; Denise C. Tahara, M.B.A., M.Phil, Ph.D., associate professor and director, M.P.H. Studies; and Adam E. Block, Ph.D., assistant professor of health policy and management.

 Mitchell S. Cairo, M.D., professor of pediatrics, medicine, pathology, microbiology and immunology, and cell biology and anatomy, presented "Familial Haploidentical Transplantation in Patients with High Risk Sickle Cell Disease" and "Enhancing NK Cell Mediated Immunity" at the Haploidentical Transplantation Symposium 2017, held in Atlanta on December 7.

 Esther L. Sabban, Ph.D., right, professor of biochemistry and molecular biology, and Lidia Serova, Ph.D., center, research associate professor of biochemistry and molecular biology, presented their work at the annual meeting of the Society for Neuroscience, held in Washington, D.C., November 11-15 on "Progression of Changes in Anxiety and Gene Expression in Locus Coeruleus in Rat PTSD Model." Their work was in collaboration with Charles T. Stier, Ph.D., associate professor of pharmacology and director of the M.S. program in pharmacology, and John G. Edwards, Ph.D., professor of physiology, on "Cardiovascular Responses to Intranasal Neuropeptide Y in SPS Rodent PTSD Model." They were joined at the meeting by Akira Nakashima, Ph.D., a former visiting scientist in Dr. Sabban's laboratory from Fujita Health University Toyoake in Aichi, Japan.

 Michal Laniado Schwartzman, Ph.D., professor and chair of the Department of Pharmacology, professor of medicine and associate professor of ophthalmology, received a four-year grant totaling $2.297 million, from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' National Heart, Lung, And Blood Institute for "Molecular Mechanisms of 20-HETE-Mediated Vascular Dysfunction and Hypertension."
