Class of 2020 Commencement Set for May 19 

The Class of 2020 will take center stage on May 19 at the Westchester County Center, in White Plains, New York. The 2:00 p.m. ceremony will feature all the pomp and circumstance fitting for the 161st commencement exercises of New York Medical College (NYMC) and the inaugural commencement of the Touro College of Dental Medicine at NYMC. Commencement speaker R. Bruce Donoff, D.M.D., M.D., the Walter C. Guralnick Distinguished Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Harvard University Distinguished Service Professor and former dean of the Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM), will address the Class of 2020. 

Prominent Gastroenterologist to Address 24th Medical Student Research Forum 

The 24th Annual Medical Student Research Forum (MSRF), featuring keynote speaker Ari Grinspan, M.D., a prominent gastroenterologist, is set for Thursday, February 6. Dr. Grinspan, assistant professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology and director of the GI Microbial Therapeutics at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, will present "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Microbiome." 

STAR Alum is in Top 300 Scholars in the Regeneron Science Talent Search 2020 

Sophie Vernik, an alumna of the Summer Trainees in Academic Research (STAR) Program in the Graduate School of Basic Medical Sciences, is in the top 300 scholars in the Regeneron Science Talent Search 2020, the nation's oldest and most prestigious science and math competition for high school seniors. The 17-year-old from Yorktown High School, in Yorktown Heights, New York, earned the honor for her work this summer on "Spreading Depolarizations as Preconditioning to Post-Stroke Neuronal Death," under the mentorship of Patric K. Stanton, Ph.D., professor of cell biology and anatomy and of neurology.
