Center for Disaster Medicine Hosts Mass Casualty Triage Training at Local Hospital
The Center for Disaster Medicine hosted a day-long mass casualty triage training course at St. John's Riverside Hospital in Yonkers, N.Y., on December 19, to prepare medical professionals for mass shootings, bombings and other disasters and to highlight the importance of such training to elected officials in attendance, including New York State Senate Majority Leader, Andrea Stewart-Cousins, fourth from left. The course featured hands-on exercises, lectures and interactive group discussions to teach participants the most effective and evidence-supported emergency department and hospital triage methods, initial interventions and patient flow approaches for mass casualty events. Touro College of Dental Medicine Names Howard Israel, D.D.S., Vice Dean for Academic Affairs
The Touro College of Dental Medicine (TouroCDM) at New York Medical College has appointed Howard Israel, D.D.S., as the school's first vice dean for academic affairs, with responsibility for the academic program and accreditation compliance of TouroCDM, including oversight of a coordinated curriculum management process to ensure TouroCDM's student dentists are well-equipped for the future of dentistry. Dr. Israel previously served as professor of clinical surgery and director of research at Weill Cornell Medical College and professor of clinical dentistry at Columbia University College of Dental Medicine. Touro College of Dental Medicine and the Westchester Institute for Human Development Sign Academic Affiliation Agreement
The Touro College of Dental Medicine (TouroCDM) at New York Medical College and the Westchester Institute for Human Development (WIHD) have entered into an academic affiliation designating WIHD as a teaching site for TouroCDM students. Dental students will conduct weekly rotations in WIHD's Dental Center, which provides oral health care to more than 4,000 adults and children with special needs each year throughout the Hudson Valley. Students will assist WIHD's Dental Center in the provision of care at its facility in Cedarwood Hall on the Valhalla campus and in WIHD's mobile dental van that travels throughout the region. Students will also observe oral procedures conducted under general anesthesia in the operating room at Westchester Medical Center Health Network's MidHudson Regional Hospital.
