The Music of Mozart Comes Alive at Met
 Melodies and tunes rang out at NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan in the form of a string quartet from the Manhattan School of Music at the Music and Medicine: The Genius of Mozart event on November 14. The musical gift of the prolific and influential composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756 - 1791) was celebrated with a lecture by Stephen E. Moshman, M.D., third from left, professor of medicine, who is also the conductor and music director of the Albert Einstein Symphony Orchestra. The lecture was interspersed with musical selections performed by the string quartet from the Manhattan School of Music, demonstrating the talent, genius and prodigy of Mozart. The string quartet, from left, Su Jin Oh, violin, Joshua Gomberoff, viola, Shinyeong Kim, cello, and Gi Hwan Kim, violin, was joined by Alina Moran, M.P.A., chief executive officer, NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan, and Edward C. StuHE Hosts Career Mentor Session
 More than 60 students and alumni in the School of Health Sciences and Practice put their best foot forward and met with advisers at the 8th Annual Career Mentor Session hosted by the Student Healthcare Executives Club (StuHE) on November 16 under the guidance of advisors Denise C. Tahara, M.B.A., M.Phil, Ph.D., associate professor of public health practice and director, M.P.H. Studies, and Michael P. Shakarjian, Ph.D., assistant professor and program director, M.P.H. Environmental Health Science Studies. The Medical Education Center lobby was filled with stations for participants to meet and network with public health professionals serving as career mentors, offering feedback on their resumes and tips for searching for a job. Seventeen career mentors included professionals representing behavioral/community health, global health, environmental health, hospital systems, emergency preparedness, pharmaceuticals, county health commissioners and federally qualified health centers. Remote access mentor sessions were available for distance learning students as well as off-site mentors. Ben C. Watson, Ph.D., vice dean of the School of Health Sciences and Practice, offered his guidance on careers in public health. "The event was, once again, a great success. It was a great opportunity for presenting a diverse range of health care opportunities in the field of public health," said StuHE president Namrata FNU.

SHSP Weighs In at APHA 2017
 Faculty, students and alumni of the School of Health Sciences and Practice (SHSP) were among the 12,000 public health practitioners learning, sharing and exploring public health discipline and practice issues at APHA 2017, the American Public Health Association annual meeting and expo, held November 4-8 in Atlanta. This year's theme, "Creating the Healthiest Nation: Climate Changes Health," featured sessions focused on climate change, from its impact on disease-carrying vectors to the role of transportation and planning professionals to occupational safety in the green job sector. Musarrat Rahman, an M.P.H. candidate in behavioral sciences and health promotion, was nominated by the Delta Alpha Chapter of the Delta Omega Honorary Society in Public Health and selected through a national student competition, to present her scholarship and research at their annual sponsored student poster session through the Academic Public Health Caucus. She presented "Watching Your Back: How Much Do People at Increased Risk Actually Know about the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and Its Association with Anal Cancer?" NYMC Welcomes Human Rights Institute for Middle School Student Leaders to Campus
 NYMC was pleased to host the Holocaust and Human Rights Education Center Third Annual Human Rights Institute for Middle School Student Leaders on campus on November 14 and 16. More than 120 seventh grade students from area middle schools, both public and private, attended presentations and workshops focused on the importance of confronting prejudice and discrimination and becoming upstanders rather than bystanders. A highlight of the event was a special presentation by Sheila Arnold, chief executive officer and lead performer of History's Alive! Ms. Arnold, a storyteller and historical character interpreter, portrayed Betsy Costner, a 19th century slave who was freed after the Civil War, sharing her hardships and remarkable strength under horrific conditions.

 Felipe C. Cabello, M.D., professor of microbiology and immunology and associate professor of medicine, was invited to be the closing speaker at a workshop on good practices in antimicrobial use in the production of food animals organized by the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. The workshop took place November 1-3 at the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Dr. Cabello presented results from the work of his laboratory and collaborators (Drs. A. Tomova, L. Ivanova, H. Dölz, A. Buschmann, H.P. Godfrey) on the impact of antimicrobial use in aquaculture on public health in light of the emerging concept of "One Health," recognizing that the health of people is connected to the health of animals and the environment.

 Rajamma Mathew, M.D., associate professor of pediatrics and physiology, presented "Neointimal Caveolin-1 Loss May in Part Facilitate Metabolic Shift in Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension" at the III International Conference on Clinical Sciences and Drug Discovery, held November 9-11 in Washington, D.C.
