HSL Hosts Special Exhibition and Presentation
 The Health Sciences Library (HSL) hosted a special presentation on December 6, in conjunction with the exhibit, "For All the People: A Century of Citizen Action in Health Care Reform," currently on display in the 19 Skyline Drive lobby. Marie T. Ascher, M.S., M.P.H., right, the Lillian Hetrick Huber Endowed Director, welcomed speaker Adam E. Block, Ph.D., assistant professor of public health in the Division of Health Policy and Management, who provoked the audience with the title of his presentation, "Dirty Secrets of U.S. Health Reform." The exhibit, created by the National Library of Medicine and National Institutes of Health, tells the lesser-known story of how movements of ordinary citizens helped shape the changing American health care system. You can view the exhibit through December 17, in the 19 Skyline Drive lobby and from December 18 to January 6, in the Hales lobby in the Basic Sciences Building.

GSBMS Hosts Bake Sale to Benefit Victims of the California Wildfire
The New York Medical College community rallied to support a bake sale hosted by students in the Graduate School of Basic Medical Sciences (GSBMS) on November 29 and 30, in response to the deadliest wildfires in California's history.
In two days, $1,000 was raised for Direct Relief, a not-for-profit charity based in California that supports disaster response efforts, including emergency shipments of medications, medical supplies and other essentials to aid health providers and first responder organizations in the fire-ravaged areas. NYMC Researcher Recalls Past Collaboration with Nobel Laureate George P. Smith, Ph.D.
In accepting the 2018 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, University of Missouri Professor George P. Smith, Ph.D., said science

, associate professor of microbiology and immunology, and Gary P. Wormser, M.D., professor of medicine, microbiology and immunology, and pharmacology, and vice chair of medicine for research and development. "Dr. Smith was a co-recipient of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the development of phage-displayed peptide libraries, some of which he generously supplied and were instrumental in our discovery of a new diagnostic peptide for Lyme disease," explains Dr. Hamby. Robert W. Amler M.D., M.B.A., dean of the School of Health Sciences and Practice and vice president for government affairs, received the prestigious Council of Advancement and Education and Support of Education (CASE) 2018 Edwin Crawford Award for Innovation. Dr. Amler was honored for his advocacy and leadership at NYMC and elevating the College's profile among New York legislators at the 2018 Higher Education Government Relations Conference in Atlanta on December 6.

Keosha T. Bond, Ed.D., M.P.H., CHES, assistant professor of public health, was a participant on a panel discussion hosted by the New York City Department of Health, East Harlem Action Center, on December 1 to commemorate World AIDS Day. It was part of a series "Amplifying Voices," highlighting the experiences and needs of people who are often silenced by society. Dr. Bond also participated on a panel discussion, hosted by the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., on December 6 at Bergen County Community College.
