Department of Surgery Hosts 15th Annual Louis R.M. DelGuercio Distinguished Visiting Professorship and Research Day
Eighty-five abstract submissions -- an 85% increase from last year -- marked the 15th Annual Louis R.M. DelGuercio Distinguished Visiting Professorship and Research Day hosted by the Department of Surgery, on December 19. The day featured a moderated poster session and podium presentations by medical students, residents and faculty members from the Department of Surgery at the College and hospital affiliates and a distinguished visiting professor lecture by Adil Haider, M.D., M.P.H., second from right, associate chair for research and Kessler Director, Center for Surgery and Public Health, a joint initiative of Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School and Harvard T.H. SHSP Hosts Winter Meet and Greet
Mark J. Kittleson, Ph.D., professor and chairman of the Department of Public Health, welcomed M.P.H. and Dr.P.H. students in the School of Health Sciences and Practice (SHSP) to the Second Annual Winter Meet and Greet, on December 4, for an evening of camaraderie and refreshments. Guests were asked to brings toys and gifts to be donated to children of families at the Greenburgh Health Center, which is directed by SHSP alumna Judith M. Watson, R.N., B.S.N., M.P.H. '07, far left, executive director. Joining the festivities were from left: Jeffrey Patrick, M.P.H. candidate; Elizabeth D. Drugge, Ph.D., M.P.H. '12, assistant professor of epidemiology, Cindy A. Jakubowski, administrative secretary, Division of Health Policy and Management; Carol Wallace, administrator at Greenburgh Health Center; and Adam E. Block, Ph.D., assistant professor of health policy and management.

GSA Sponsors Third Annual Snowman Project
The Graduate Student Association (GSA) in the Graduate School of Basic Medical Sciences sponsored the Third Annual Snowman Project, a holiday gift drive to benefit Sheltering Arms. Students, faculty and staff fulfilled the wishes of more than 100 children this holiday season. Sheltering Arms is an organization working to strengthen the education, well-being and development of vulnerable children, youth and families across the New York metro area. GSA officers from left: Simone Norris, chair of community building; Kristy Tefft, vice president; Lara Mattei, secretary; Marianna Jolly, chair of the Graduate Student Research Forum; Joshua Vazhappilly, president; Nadeen Matari, treasurer; and Sasha Gonzalez, vice chair of the Graduate Student Research Forum.

Mitchell S. Cairo, M.D., professor of pediatrics, division of pediatric hematology, oncology and stem cell transplantation, and professor of medicine, pathology, microbiology and immunology, and cell biology and anatomy, presented "New Advances in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Children and Adolescents with B-cell Lymphoma," at the Lymphoma Symposium at Aula Magna del Collegio Carlo Cattaneo Università degli Studi dell'Insubria in Varese, Italy, on December 13.
