SHSP Hosts Special Dean's Lecture
 The School of Health Sciences and Practice hosted a special Dean's Lecture on November 28 as part of its Dean's Distinguished Leaders Lecture Series, welcoming Thomas W. Feeley, M.D., second from left, senior fellow, Harvard Business School and professor emeritus, University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, as the guest lecturer. Dr. Feely, who presented "Values Based Health Care," shared his research on the value-based health care agenda with an emphasis on the role of information technology in health care and the implementation of value-based health care through outcome measurement, cost measurement, and alternative reimbursement strategies in delivery systems worldwide.

SOM Office of Diversity and Inclusion Celebrates Native American Heritage Month
 The School of Medicine (SOM) Office of Diversity and Inclusion marked the month of November, Native American Heritage Month, with a special presentation, "The Social and Structural Determinants of Urban American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) Health," on November 29. The lunchtime presentation began with a traditional Land Acknowledgement, a formal statement that recognizes the unique and enduring relationship that exists between indigenous peoples and their traditional territories. Camille A. Clare, M.D., M.P.H. '11, left, associate dean of diversity and inclusion for the School of Medicine and associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology, welcomed the speakers, Andrea Garcia, M.D., M.S., center, director of community centered initiatives, Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, and Monique Castro, M.S., owner and psychotherapist of Indigenous Circle of Wellness. Through an interactive storytelling account of members of an extended family of the Dine tribe, they explored how federal policies have impacted the demographics and health outcomes of AI/AN in urban areas, health problems associated with AI/AN natives, the Indian Health Service, issues with access to health care and best practices to providing culturally sensitive care.

D.P.T. Class of 2020 Present Community Service Projects
 The Doctor of Physical Therapy (D.P.T.) Class of 2020 was proud to share their good works and good will at the Community Service Project Presentations on November 29. Students carry out the projects to address a local or underserved community need and a variety of beneficiaries gain from their hard work, skills and knowledge. This year's projects included the 20th anniversary of the Race for Rehab, a health and wellness project focused on monitoring stress levels and high blood pressure, and a global outreach project that collected and refurbished medical equipment and shipped to Puerto Rico and other areas affected by hurricanes. Guests Celebrate at Touro College of Dental Medicine Gala
 The Touro College of Dental Medicine (TouroCDM) at New York Medical College hosted its 3rd annual gala bringing together nearly 300 members of the TouroCDM community on November 18 at The Ritz-Carlton in White Plains, N.Y. The event raised funds that will support both student scholarships and patient care at Touro Dental Health, the school's 32,000-square-foot dental clinical teaching facility.

Med Students Observe Movember for a Good Cause
 The Oncology Interest Group led the School of Medicine (SOM) celebration of No Shave November, or Movember, to raise money for the Movember Foundation to increase awareness of men's health issues including prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention. The contestants, from left, Jesse Honig, SOM Class of 2021, Trevor Plumer, SOM Class of 2022, Shloimy Gold, SOM Class of 2022, Michael Frohlinger, SOM Class of 2022, and Charles White, SOM Class of 2022, let their facial hair grow throughout the month of November, raising donations through sponsors. The two finalists who raised the most money were then judged by a panel of faculty judges who evaluated them based on criteria such as beard fullness and creativity. Padmini Murthy, M.D., M.P.H., M.S., M.Phil, CHES, FRSPH, professor and global health director in the Department of Public Health, Division of Health Policy and Management, and clinical assistant professor of family and community medicine, was recognized with an award for her work advancing women's issues from the NGO Committee on the Status of Women at the Women Ambassador's Luncheon in New York City, on November 20. She also served as co-chair of the event.
