Medical Student Research Forum Showcases Student Scientific Investigations
 An abundance of student research was represented at the 22nd Annual Medical Student Research Forum, filling the Medical Education Center lobby and overflowing into the Basic Sciences Building lobby, on February 8. A total of 51 presentations, in oral and poster format, preceded the keynote address by flu vaccine expert Doris J. Bucher, Ph.D., associate professor of microbiology and immunology and pediatrics, who presented "1918-2018: 100 Years of Flu." "The students did an outstanding job this year and their research was quite impressive," said Mary Petzke, Ph.D., assistant professor of microbiology and immunology and director of medical student research. "Sixty-one percent of the projects were conducted under New York Medical College (NYMC) faculty mentorship, breaking last year's record of 50 percent." It is also a dramatic increase from 2014, the first year of tracking this information, when only 36 percent of the submissions were conducted under NYMC mentorship, according to Dr. Petzke. Touro College of Dental Medicine Offers a Day Filled with Smiles and Free Oral Health Services for Kids
 On February 18, some of Westchester County's youngest residents arrived at the Touro College of Dental Medicine (TouroCDM) at New York Medical College for a day of free oral health services. The national program, "Give Kids a Smile" supported by the American Dental Association, took place at Touro Dental Health, the brand new 81-chair dental teaching practice located on the third floor of 19 Skyline Drive. Judging from smiles all around, the event was a huge success drawing a crowd of more than 40 preschool and elementary-aged children and their parents as well as a numerous community leaders including New York State Senator David Carlucci; New York State Assemblyman Kevin Byrne; Sherlita Amler, M.D., M.S., Westchester County Health Commissioner and clinical associate professor of pediatrics and adjunct professor in the Division of Epidemiology; and representatives for New York State Senator Terrence Murphy. Medical Students Encourage Youth to Explore Careers in Medicine
 Medical students volunteered their time and mentored youth at the recent Exploring Career Pathways program, a lunchtime speaker series offered by the White Plains Youth Bureau at White Plains High School. The program was developed to give students insight into career options. Kevin Hui, Luis Quintero, Humza Jamil, Yedidya Ben-avie, members of the School of Medicine (SOM) Class of 2021 and Giovanna Varuzza, SOM Class of 2020, shared their own personal stories and backgrounds and gave the participants guidance about pre-med courses, applying to medical school, financing a medical education and life as a medical student.

SOM P2P Committee Recognizes Role Models at NYMC
 The School of Medicine (SOM) Peer to Peer (P2P) Committee celebrates the exemplary students of NYMC with Professionals of NYMC, a recognition program to highlight peer role models and showcase students who demonstrate the ideals valued most as future healthcare professionals. The initiative recognizes students in the NYMC community who embody the school's core graduation competencies, including outstanding acts of patient care, interpersonal and communication skills, collaboration and professionalism. It is the hope that Professionals of NYMC will inspire all members of the NYMC community to make a positive difference in the lives of others. One selected winner per class will receive recognition in their Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE) during the application to residency process. Call for 2018 Founder's Dinner Awards Nominations
 New York Medical College (NYMC) is accepting nominations for awards to be presented at the annual Founder's Dinner scheduled for Sunday, October 14, 2018 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, in Tarrytown, N.Y. NYMC alumni, faculty, employees, or other interested parties may submit a nomination for the William Cullen Bryant Award, the Alfred DelBello Distinguished Service Award and the Jackson E. Spears Community Service Award. Submit your Founder's Dinner Award Nominations online by Wednesday, March 7, 2018.

 Hasanat Alamgir, M.B.A., Ph.D., associate professor of public health, vice chairman of the public health doctoral program and co-director of the Center for Long-Term Care, presented "Depression and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder among Female Factory Workers in Bangladesh" at the Department of Environmental Medicine and Public Health, Division of Occupational Medicine Seminar Series at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, on February 16.
