School of Medicine Hosts Leadership Retreat
D. Douglas Miller, M.D., C.M., M.B.A., left, dean of the School of Medicine, hosted a School of Medicine Leadership Retreat, "Engagement and Innovation-Organizational Transformation Essentials," on March 7 for department chairs, faculty members, administration and affiliated teaching hospital administrators. The interactive retreat featured guest speakers, from left: Brian Frederiksen, M.B.A., M.Eng., Global Leader Strategic Partnerships and Channels, IBM Watson Health Group, who presented "Is Personal Transformation Necessary for Healthcare Transformation?; Karen Fisher, J.D., chief public policy officer, American Association of Medical Colleges, who presented "What Does a Trump Administration Mean to Academic Medicine?"; and David A. Williams, M.D., chief scientific officer, Boston Children's Hospital, who presented "Translating Science into Care in the Hospital-Is Precision Medicine Coming?"

The 21st Annual Medical Student Research Forum Boasts Broad Range of Student Scientific Investigations
The 21st Annual Medical Student Research Forum held on March 6 featured a record-breaking number of student submissions. Despite being rescheduled due to a snowstorm, more than 50 poster presentations overflowed from the Medical Education Center lobby and lined the hallway of the Basic Sciences Building, followed by five oral presentations. Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy Hosts Annual Research Forum
The Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy hosted its annual research forum on March 8. Six graduate students and two post-doctoral fellows gave presentations followed by a five-minute question and comment period from a panel of judges comprised of Nicholas R. Ferreri, Ph.D., professor of pharmacology, Christopher S. Leonard, Ph.D., professor of physiology, and Esther Sabban, Ph.D., professor of biochemistry and molecular biology. Joseph D. Etlinger, Ph.D., standing far left, professor and chairman of the Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy, and Victor A. Health Sciences Library Hosts Improving Women's Lives Display
The Health Sciences Library is currently hosting a special exhibit produced by the National Library of Medicine, "Confronting Violence: Improving Women's Lives." The exhibit explores images, manuscripts and records that tell the stories of the nurses who witnessed the effects of domestic violence and campaigned for change, and will be on display through April 21. Padmini Murthy, M.D., M.P.H., M.S., M.Phil., CHES, professor of public health practice and global health director in the School of Health Sciences and Practice and clinical assistant professor of family and community medicine in the School of Medicine, will give a special presentation on violence against women on Tuesday, March 21 at 4:00 p.m., followed by a light reception.
The exhibit will be on display:
- March 13 - March 26: Basic Sciences Building
- March 27 - April 8: School of Health Sciences and Practice Building
- April 9 - April 21: Skyline Building
