SHSP Welcomes New Chairman of the Department of Health Policy and Management

Hasanat Alamgir, M.B.A., Ph.D.,
joined the NYMC community as associate professor and chairman of the Department of Health Policy and Management in the School of Health Sciences and Practice on March 1. Prior to joining NYMC, Dr. Alamgir served as associate professor of occupational and environmental health at the University of Texas School of Public Health. Before moving to Texas, he served as the director of research and evaluation at a provincial public health agency in Vancouver, Canada, and was also an adjunct professor at the faculty of health sciences at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia. His research activities focus on conducting epidemiological investigations of risk factors for injuries and economic evaluation of health interventions. As principle and co-investigator, he has received research funds from several sources including the Department of Defense, NIH/Fogarty, State Health Department, Environmental Protection Agency and Workers' Compensation Agency. Camille A. Clare, M.D., M.P.H. '11, Is Named Interim Associate Dean of Diversity and Inclusion for the School of Medicine

Camille A. Clare, M.D., M.P.H. '11,
assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology, has been named interim associate dean of diversity and inclusion for the School of Medicine. Dr. Clare has been committed to addressing health inequity and healthcare disparities, illustrated by her leadership roles on the local, regional and national levels in the National Medical Association (NMA). NMA is the largest organization of African American physicians in the United States. Dr. Clare currently serves as president of the Manhattan Central Medical Society, the local affiliate of NMA. She has also served as health policy chair for the state NMA society in New York (Empire State Medical Association), where she was active in health policy advocacy and lobbying on health care disparities. In addition to her participation in the NMA, Dr. Clare has been an active member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), serving in a variety of roles on the section, district, and national levels, and on several national committees, including the ACOG Committee on Ethics, Nominating Committee, and Adolescent Health Care Committee. Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy Hosts Research Forum
Seven students and five post-doctoral fellows in the Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy presented their research results at the department's annual research forum, held March 3. Each student presented a ten-minute talk followed by a five-minute period to answer questions posed by three judges: Alberto Nasjletti, M.D., professor of pharmacology, William N. Ross, Ph.D., professor of physiology, and Chirag Upreti, Ph.D. '12, research scientist in the Department of Neuroscience at the New York State Psychiatric Institute.

th Annual AOA Visiting Professor Lecture Set for March 23
The New York Iota chapter of Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA), the national medical honor society, will welcome
Ruth-Marie Fincher, M.D., vice dean for academic affairs emerita, Medical College of Georgia (MCG) Augusta University, as the 60th Annual Saul A. Schwartz, M.D. '30, Visiting Professor, on Wednesday, March 23 at 5:00 p.m. in Skyline Auditorium. Following Dr. Schafer's lecture, "A Stethoscope, a Pen, and a Compass," a dinner and ceremony will be held to induct medical students from the Classes of 2016 and 2017 into AOA. The evening will also honor residents, alumni and faculty with induction into AOA.
