Class of 2017 Earns Choice Residencies at Match Day
At high noon on the third Friday in March, otherwise known as Match Day, the Medical Education Center lobby was filled to capacity as the School of Medicine Class of 2017 tore open their envelopes from the National Resident Matching Program and learned where they will be going for their residency training. True to tradition, the 200+ graduating doctors-to-be and their families and friends cheered, shed tears and embraced when found out where they will complete the next phase of their medical education. This year's "Match" was a record-high with 35,969 U.S. and international medical school students and graduates vying for 31,757 positions, the most ever offered in the Match. Medical Students Observe GHHS National Solidarity Week for Compassionate Patient Care
 NYMC medical students were proud to participate in National Solidarity Week for Compassionate Patient Care in February, an event sponsored by the Arnold P. Gold Foundation's Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS). The events of Solidarity Week, celebrated this year February 13-17, are designed to strengthen the critical bond that exists between patients and people who care for them. Students Volunteer at 2017 Special Olympics New York State Winter Games
 New York Medical College and Touro College of Dental Medicine students stepped out to volunteer at the 2017 Special Olympics New York State Winter Games held at the Stewart Air National Guard Base in Newburgh, N.Y. on February 17-18. More than 1,000 athletes and coaches from across the state participated in games featuring competitions in alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, figure skating, floor hockey and snowshoeing. TCDM Students Participate in ADEA's Hack-a-thon
Five members of Touro College of Dental Medicine's (TCDM) inaugural class attended the American Dental Education Association's (ADEA) "Hack-a-Thon" event recently at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. The Hack-a-thon is a competition to create the best dental school curriculum. The teams were a mix of students from nine dental schools− TCDM, New York University, Tufts, Boston University, Harvard, University of New England, Stony Brook, University of Connecticut, and Buffalo.
Students were encouraged to think outside the box and incorporate experiences and insights from their various backgrounds to create an innovative dental program. Each group focused on two areas to incorporate into their curriculum, such as public health and licensure. The day ended with presentations by each team followed by the selection of first and second-place winners.

Marie T. Ascher, M.S., M.P.H., the Lillian Hetrick Huber Endowed Director Health Sciences Library and assistant professor of family and community medicine, was elected to serve as a director of the Medical Library Association for a three-year term.

John T. Fallon III M.D., Ph.D., back center, professor and chairman of the Department of Pathology and professor of medicine, received the 2017 Distinguished Achievement Award from the Society for Cardiovascular Pathology at the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP) annual meeting held March 4-5 in San Antonio. Dr. Fallon presented "Myocarditis: Infection or Autoimmune Reaction? Deep Sequencing Analyses."
