For Vikas Grover, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, assistant professor of speech-language pathology (SLP), helping non-native English speakers to expand their linguistic abilities is more than a job -- it is a calling. Expanding English accent skills is a service Dr. Grover provides weekly at the SLP Clinic in the School of Health Sciences and Practice. George W. Contreras, M.E.P., M.P.H., M.S., CEM, assistant director of the Center for Disaster Medicine and assistant professor in the Institute of Public Health, was an invited keynote speaker for an international webinar, "Evaluating Emergency Medical Service (EMS) response from the front lines in New York City (NYC)," hosted by the School of Medicine at Universidad CES in Medellín, Colombia, on April 16.  He discussed the NYC EMS response during the pandemic based on his experiences as a NYC paramedic and discussed lessons identified from this public health emergency. He was the only invited speaker from the United States, with other invited speakers representing EMS in Spain, Argentina, Mexico, Peru, Ecuador, Panama, Colombia, Canada and Chile.

Padmini Murthy, M.D., M.P.H., M.S., FAMWA, FRSPH, professor in the Division of Health Policy and Management and global health director in the Department of Public Health, organized and moderated a webinar, " One World, One War Against COVID-19: European Leaders and the American Medical Women's Association (AMWA) Come Together," on April 21. The event hosted by AMWA featured accounts of the response to the COVID-19 pandemic in local and national settings and how women in medicine across the world can collaborate.

Jonathan A.N. Fisher, Ph.D., assistant professor of physiology, received a four-year $352,239 grant from the National Institutes of Health for his work, "Neural Mechanisms of Ultrasound-induced Enhancement of Sensory Acuity."
