Center of Excellence in Precision Responses to Bioterrorism and Disasters is Awarded $925,000 by New York State
 New York Medical College leadership, administration and staff, local law enforcement and elected officials, gathered for a press conference on April 24 to announce $925,000 in funding for the Center of Excellence in Precision Responses to Bioterrorism and Disasters from New York State. The funding will allow the Center to expand training programs for hospitals, health systems and first responders, to improve responses to disasters and acts of terrorism throughout New York State. Department of Physical Therapy Hosts 15th Annual Doctoral Project Presentation Day
 Forty-four future doctors of physical therapy took to the podium to present their projects at the 15th Annual Doctoral Project Presentation Day on April 18. Students shared their findings in the areas of clinical research, education or public health service, with an audience of their peers, mentors, faculty and administration. This year's projects addressed a wide assortment of topics such as an educational program on running for police recruits, cultural competency, genomics in the physical therapy curriculum and the incidence of pressure ulcers for patients with spinal cord injury in Bangladesh, among others. The keynote presentation was given by Irene Davis, Ph.D., P.T., FACSM, FAPTA, FASB, professor of physical medicine and rehabilitation, Harvard Medical School and director of the Spaulding National Running Center. Historical Statues Re-Emerge
 New York Medical College's (NYMC) menagerie of storybook-themed animals--which are covered throughout the winter-were recently unveiled for spring. Sprinkled throughout campus, the statues may seem whimsical at first glance. But closer reflection reveals each historic artifact has been purposefully placed, maintained or highlighted via signage as a way of paying homage to NYMC's storied past and to represent the College's longstanding commitment to caring for the complete person, both mind and spirit. In 1931, long before it housed NYMC's administrative offices, the Sunshine Cottage building was a 35-bed children's tuberculosis hospital, adorned with animal and nature motifs that symbolized health and happiness. Marina K. Holz, Ph.D.
, dean of the Graduate School of Basic Medical Sciences, will be honored by
Westchester Magazine
as a
2019 Westchester County "Healthcare Hero."
She was selected along with nine other individuals for her work in community service, innovative research and leadership in the local Westchester medical community. Dr. Holz will be featured in the May 2019 issue of
Westchester Magazine
and be honored at a celebratory luncheon.
