Members of the School of Medicine Class of 2020 Inducted into GHHS 

The New York Medical College (NYMC) School of Medicine (SOM) was proud to induct 33 members of the Class of 2020 into its chapter of the Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS), an initiative of the Arnold P. Gold Foundation, at a ceremony on April 1. Established in 2002 to foster, recognize and support the values of humanism and professionalism in medicine, GHHS honors senior medical students, residents, role-model physician teachers and others who have "demonstrated excellence in clinical care, leadership, compassion and dedication to service." Membership to the society is through a peer nomination and selection process and promotes the ideals of humanism in medicine through community service, mentorship, role-modeling and other initiatives. AOA Iota Chapter Hosts Annual Visiting Professor Lecture and Induction Ceremony 

The New York Iota chapter of Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA), the national medical honor society, welcomed Elliot Levine, M.D, as the Annual AOA Visiting Professor on April 2. Dr. Levine, who is instructor of medicine and a physician at the Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplantation Center of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network, specializes in advanced heart failure, transplant cardiology, clinical electrophysiology and nuclear cardiology. He presented "If I Only Had a Heart," covering the history of heart transplantation and mechanical circulatory support. Following Dr. Levine's lecture, a dinner and ceremony were held to induct medical students from the Classes of 2019 and 2020 as well as faculty, residents and alumni into AOA. NYMC Celebrates National Public Health Week 

National Public Health Week (NPHW) was observed with an array of activities at the School of Health Sciences and Practice (SHSP) during the first week of April. Students, faculty, staff and alumni of the SHSP all joined together to commemorate the nationwide event of the American Public Health Association (APHA) as a time to recognize the contributions of public health and highlight issues that are important to improving our nation's health. Organized by Jeffrey Patrick, left, M.P.H. candidate and vice president, membership of the Student Healthcare Executives (StuHE), this year's NPHW at New York Medical College (NYMC), carried out the theme "living your best life now." Katharine Yamulla, M.A., Is Named Senior Director of Competency Based Assessment and Clinical Skills Education

In her new role as senior director of competency based assessment and clinical skills education, Katharine Yamulla, M.A., will be responsible for leading the development, implementation, and ongoing refinement of competency-based clinical skills assessments that align with a new, highly integrated medical student curriculum and Core Entrustable Professional Activities (EPA) for medical students. Ms. Yamulla also serves as director of the Clinical Skills and Simulation Center. Read the full article on Katharine Yamulla, M.A.

Robert W. Esther L. Sabban, Ph.D., professor of biochemistry and molecular biology, was an invited speaker at the National Institute of Mental Health "Workshop on Regulatory Peptides: Emerging Neurotranslational Opportunities" on March 25-26 in Bethesda, Maryland. She presented "Neuropeptide Y and PTSD: Animal Models for Treatment Efficacy and Modality."





The Department of Dental Medicine at New York Medical College and NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan, under the leadership of Joseph Morales, D.D.S., professor and chair, received the Department of the Month Award from NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan.

Members of the New York Medical College chapter of the Student National Medical Association (SNMA) participated in the annual White Plains/Greenburgh NAACP branch "Health Game Changer" panel discussion at the Theodore Young Community Center in White Plains, New York, on March 25. This year's theme was "The Future of Healthcare for our Communities." After the discussion students provided a newly created email account to continue the dialogue for the community to ask follow up questions.
