Office of the Registrar Rolls Out Self-Service Portal for Students
|
The Office of the Registrar is pleased to announce the new Student Self-Service Portal. Students in all three schools now have real-time online access to their academic records and student services. The Student Self-Service Portal allows students to view grades, view or print unofficial transcripts, update addresses, phone numbers and emergency contacts, and view holds and current class schedules. Peer to Peer Committee Recognizes Role Models at NYMC
|
The student Peer to Peer (P2P) committee has developed the Professionals of NYMC program to provide a forum for students to recognize each other as peer role models. The program showcases students who demonstrate the ideals valued most by other students as future health care professionals. The initiative aims to recognize students who embody NYMC's core graduation competencies, including outstanding acts of patient care, interpersonal and communication skills, collaboration and professionalism. The P2P committee hopes to inspire all members of our community to make a positive difference in the lives of others. Each month nominated individuals will be featured in

At the end of April as Stephen Piccolo Jr., senior vice president for finance and chief financial officer, was cleaning out his office in preparation for his upcoming retirement, he made an important discovery in the back of his closet-a letter written by Charles Darwin (1809-1882) and a photo and signature from Edward Jenner (1749-1823). Four Faculty Members are 2015 Healthcare Heroes
|
 Four NYMC faculty members are among ten health care professionals to be honored with Westchester Magazine's 2nd Annual Healthcare Heroes Awards and profiled in the May 2015 issue of the magazine: Westchester County Health Commissioner Sherlita Amler, M.D., clinical associate professor of pediatrics and distinguished lecturer in the School of Health Sciences and Practice; William H. Frishman, M.D., the Barbara and William Rosenthal Professor and Chairman of the Department of Medicine and professor of pharmacology; Erik A. Larsen, M.D., clinical assistant professor of emergency medicine; and Craig H. Zalvan, M.D., associate professor of clinical otolaryngology. Nominations were sought from the community for individuals in all health care settings for making a significant impact, going beyond the call of duty, demonstrating excellence and their commitment to the community and life-long professionalism. Mitchell S. Cairo, M.D., professor of pediatrics, medicine, pathology, microbiology and immunology, and cell biology and anatomy, chaired a symposium, "Cord Blood Stem Cells: Biology, Banking and Future Clinical Applications," at the Pediatric Academic Society annual meeting held in San Diego, April 25 - 28.
Andrew W. Grose, M.D., left, assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery, and third-year medical students Azlyn Goff, center, and Alexey Abramov, presented "Development of a Threat and Error Management-based Clinical Observation Safety Audit" at the 17th Annual National Patient Safety Foundation 2015 Congress held in Austin, Tex. on April 29-May 1.
Tetyana Kobets, M.D., assistant professor of pathology, was granted the Early Stage Investigator Travel Award for the 2015 Genetic Toxicology Association meeting held at the University of Delaware in Newark Del., May 5-7. Her poster abstract was entitled "In Ovo Genotoxicity Assay, an Alternative Model for Evaluation of Chemical-Induced Genotoxicity."
D. Douglas Miller, M.D., C.M., M.B.A., dean of the School of Medicine, completed the Global Health Leadership Forum at the University of California Berkeley School of Public Health held in Berkely, Calif, April 18 - 22.
Padmini Murthy, M.D., M.P.H., M.S., M.Phil., CHES, associate professor of public health practice, health policy and management, clinical assistant professor of family and community medicine and global health program director, center, was an inaugural fellow of the American Medical Women's Association (AMWA). Second-year medical students Susanna Moore, left, a member of NYMC's chapter of AMWA, and Caroline Mullis, Region 2 Director for AMWA student organization, joined her at AMWA's centennial celebrations with her in Chicago April 23-26.
Kutluk Oktay, M.D., professor of obstetrics and gynecology, cell biology and anatomy, medicine, and pathology, presented the Irvin M. Cushner Memorial Lecture, "Mitochondrial Transfer for Curbing Oocyte Aging and Treating Genetic Disorders: There is a Responsible Way" at the 2015 American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists Annual Clinical and Scientific Meeting held in San Francisco on May 4.
