NYMC Observes Yom Hashoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day 

New York Medical College (NYMC) observed Yom Hashoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, on April 29 with a presentation, "One Man's Quest: Remembering the Holocaust, Restoring Jewish Heritage and Making Sure That 'Never Again' is Given Meaning," presented by guest speaker Michael Lozman, D.D.S., third from left, founder of the Restoration of European Jewish Cemeteries, Inc., and the Capital District Jewish Holocaust Memorial, LLC. ACCOLADES



Mitchell S. Cairo, M.D., professor of pediatrics, division of pediatric hematology, oncology and stem cell transplantation, and professor of medicine, pathology, microbiology and immunology, and cell biology and anatomy, presented "Immunotherapy in Pediatric Lymphoma" at the first China Cancer Immunotherapy and Targeting Therapy Conference in Beijing, China, on April 20-21.



Sina Dadafarin, center, an M.D./Ph.D. candidate in the laboratory of Jan Geliebter, Ph.D., right, professor of microbiology and immunology, received the 2019 American Head and Neck Society (AHNS) Endocrine Surgery Section Eisai Research Award for his work, "Mechanisms of Androgen-Mediated PD-L1 Attenuation in Thyroid Cancer." The award was presented at the AHNS 2019 Annual meeting in Austin, Texas, on May 1. They were joined by Augustine L. Moscatello, M.D., professor of clinical otolaryngology and chair of the Department of Otolaryngology.



Ankit Gilani, a Ph.D. candidate in the laboratory of Michal L. Schwartzman, Ph.D., professor and chair of the Department of Pharmacology, received a first place poster award for "20-HETE Interferes with Insulin Signaling Through GPR75" in the postbaccalaureate/graduate student category in the cardiovascular pharmacology division from the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics at 2019 Experimental Biology, April 6-9, in Orlando.



Akos Koller, M.D., Ph.D., right, professor of physiology, received the European Society for Microcirculation (ESM) 2019 Malpighi Award, the Society's most prestigious award. It is given to an individual with an internationally outstanding reputation in the field of microcirculation and microvascular research. He received the Gold Malpighi Medal and a life-long membership of the ESM, and delivered the Malpighi lecture, "Going With the Flow in Microcirculation," at the ESM meeting in Maastricht, Netherlands, on April 18.
