Chancellor Hosts Town Hall Meeting

Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer Edward C. Halperin, M.D., M.A., and the New York Medical College/Touro College of Dental Medicine leadership gave a State of the College update to the community on June 3. It was the third online town hall meeting since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States. Dr. Halperin took the opportunity to also address the other perpetual pandemic, racism and its lethal consequences. "We have been actively meeting to develop an action plan of what we can and will do better on our campus and in our own family," Dr. Halperin said. "New York Medical College cannot by itself rewrite 401 years of American history but what we can do and what we will do is strive to do our part to change that part of the American experience within our grasp. We will do that." View the Town Hall Meeting.
NYMC Medical Students Participate in Medical Education Subway Summit 2020

Although it wasn't the traditional format of the annual Medical Education Subway Summit on May 9, 2020, the lessons learned and the relationships formed were the same as in years past since the event was launched in 2014. The Medical Education Subway Summit is a platform for inter-institutional collaboration for faculty, house staff and medical students, across the New York City area to share innovations in medical education and engage in meaningful dialogue. This year marked the first year that New York Medical College (NYMC) School of Medicine (SOM) students were involved in the planning of the Summit. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Summit quickly pivoted to an online virtual conference focused on COVID-19 student responses, providing a venue for discussion with student leaders at the epicenter of the pandemic to help other student leaders initiate, plan and implement projects at their respective institutions and communities around the globe during the pandemic. HSL Offers Webinar on the New PubMed

In connection with the release of the new version of PubMed by the National Institutes of Health and the National Library of Medicine, the Health Sciences Library (HSL) is offering an instructional webinar on Wednesday, June 10, at 12:00 p.m., to teach how to navigate the new interface with ease, use new features, and explain how the new search function works. PubMed's search algorithm has evolved, using the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) new, multi-faceted, state-of-the-art algorithm for more accurate and relevant searching, similar to a Google search experience. Search results now appear in a "best match" order with the most relevant articles appearing first. The new interface was also designed for smoother navigation between articles and better integration with social media platforms. PubMed is now fully adaptable to mobile devices and has a sleeker appearance. Though the old PubMed interface is no longer available, personal NCBI settings are not be affected by this transition. Register for the PubMed webinar here.
